Hi Laila! Welcome from a fellow Pa gal. I think I am about an hour and a half from you. Are you fairly close to the Sight and Sound Theater? We go there about twice a year. Welcome again!! Misty |

Hey Laila. Welcome from Ga. I have 2 beef calves that are 10 months old. They are grass-fed, too. They are about 700 lbs. now. So hopefully by the end of Fall-early Winter, he will be ready to go to butcher. The heifer I will keep to breed. She's my sweetie. How long does it take ya'll to get them to market weight?
Glad you're here. I hope to learn from you about the grass fed business.
Kris

Thanks so much for all the kind welcomes! I live about an hour away from Sight & Sound theater.
It takes about 20- 24 months to finish a grass-fed steer depending how big you want the animal. We just started doing grass fed. This is our second year of having the animals in pasture. We even got a blue heeler puppy to help us move the cattle from pasture to pasture. He is so active and doesn't listen very well but hopefully that will get better as he gets older!

Laila, Welcome to the forum. I don't think we are very far from you. Maybe around 1 1/2 hrs or so. Do you butcher your own beef?

Welcome Laila, A former Lancaster girl here (still call it home after 23 years in Colorado). Any calves this spring? We have ranchers down the road and love driving by everday seeing the new babies. Do you have a hex sign on your barn? Rosemary

Denise, Yes, we butcher our own beef. We are currently trying to get hooked up with a CSA in New Jersey. Hope it works out.
Rosemary, Unfortunately, we don't have a hex sign on our barn but 1 of our neighbors has one. Yes, we have had some calves this spring. We raise black angus and it is so cute seeing the little black calves running through the grass.
