Hi, everyone!
New on this site, & hoping to meet you all here. I moved to Big Bend, Calhoun Co WV just over a year ago, & really don't yet have a social network. When I'm not working part-time or being around my 6 indoor cats, I'm slowly settling into this house & also (a bit more quickly) beginning some gardens. Just now I'm continually improvising with a "lasagna" garden I started that's 28' in diameter; I want to create a spiral herb/ meditation walk & garden. Will probably need to wait until next year to plant it, though, while I create the topsoil from my layers.
Thanks so much for welcoming me here!
Nica

Hi, Nica. My step sister is named Nicca. I have not heard of anyone with that name since her. I love it. Your garden sounds nice. And big. Welcome to the forum.

Welcome Nica!!!
Your garden sounds so nice, I haven't tried the Lasagna Gardening yet. Hmmm, something to think about :)
I look forward to getting to know you :)

Thanks, everyone!
Since I wrote that post, my internet's been down until yesterday. I also pull 2 long days at work on Sunday & Monday (today), so I need to get over to the Trader's Guide office within an hour. That's a local buy/ trade/ sell weekly paper here, & I'm 1 of 2 transcribers for it, & 1 of ? delivery people who have a Wednesday route to run. It took me many months last year, but I was very fortunate in finding work in rural central WV.
So, maybe tonight I can find time to browse around this site with you!
Sharon, this is my first attempt at this size for a lasagna garden. It's truly an ongoing experiment. My neighbors who comment (some just look impassively askance, if that's possible) say, "Bring in a tiller" or "Buy topsoil". But the suburbanite in me isn't used to heavy equipment for gardening (rather than farming), I want to do it myself, & I don't want to invest too much more money in it.
Kris, "Nica" is short for Veronica, one of my middle names. I only started using it after my husband died in 2006 & my mom in 2007. No real family left.
Alee, that's my goal, making a home, since these 2 fairly recent deaths had rendered my lifelong PA property a meaningless wasteland for me. My cats & I strive to make this place ours.
Thanks for the welcome, Teresa Sue. I'm glad your quote is from the Dalai Lama. He's quite a quiet hero for me.
Well, off to create some paper trails today. Sorry to be so chatty!
Nica

Hi, Nica, and never fear - you have a family right here! I did my first lasagna garden this year, and so far, I love it! And I love your idea for a spiral herb garden. Keep us posted on your progress!

Hahaha, don't worry about being "chatty" on this forum, as you will see, we take "chatty" to a new level, lol! It really is like family here, you are not alone.
