I would love to see some posts about creative gardening ideas! I have learned almost all i know about gardening from my grandmother. She grew up in an old farm house and has the greatest ideas! She has planted flowers in old watering cans, those old speckled cook ware pots, she would make raised flower beds from the shale behind her house. (I have also done this at my house, compliments of grammys unused shale!) She has even went as far as planting little flowers in those vintage tea cups and saucers. If anyone has any cute ideas post them!!

Welcome to MJF, Claudia! Here's a little gem from our very own Aunt Jenny that I copied for my own flower bed...

My mom used to grow those little "Hen and Chicken" plants in an old boot. That was super adorable.

I had a lady just today telling me about a little trick she did in her yard. She had an old concrete birdbath that was not very deep and she filled it with dirt and planted some flowers that dont grow very deep but that grow out kinda like a ground cover and she said it was so pretty the way the flower hung over the edges like the water was spilling out. I think this is a great idea and hope to try it myself someday soon. Blessings,Karen

| I think one thing that's reallly cute and handy is an old mailbox painted in a garden theme and put on a post in the garden. Then you have a place to put your small garden tools. |

I used to take all of the shoes that we wore out or out grew and stick hens and chickens in them. I wish I would of taken pictures. I had shoes from Kindergarden to college. They were 2 rolls deep on the side of my house. Everyone loved them so I started to give them away. I have 2 or 3 pr. left but had about 100.

Well, a couple of years ago we had to replace the toilets in both our bathrooms. My husband insisited I should use them as flower planters! I did not. LOL!! Though I have seen some people do this around here.
I also saw a yard where someone had taken an old wrought iron bed frame and planted flowers in it in the front yard. A Flower Bed! That actually was really cute.

LOL I have seen someone using their old toilet as flower planters. In my previous town where I used to live. It was a "cute" idea but NOT something I would do myself ;)

AND I have seen pictures in a magazine of a Flower bed. SO cute, loved the idea IF I had a very large garden and an extra bed, who knows.....;) But since I don't have either, no Flower bed for me lol

Speaking of old wrought iron beds...a friend of mine who's a carpenter hung one on a front porch as an oversized swing/hammock. I think it would also be a fun idea to hang one from a huge stately oak!

These are cute ideas. I was going to say everyone needs a toilet flower garden.
I had an old wheelbarrow that I planted lots of flowers in at my old house.

How would you use an old bed frame as a swing?

I had my Mom hand-letter (I like her handwriting better than mine) three wooden signs with a few of my favorite sayings - a scripture verse, a short poem and another quote. I hung them on the fence surrounding my raised-bed gardens and they look adorable.
Also, because I love the rustic look, for most of my tomato stakes and my pea trellis, I used large tree branches tied with jute twine. Cute and functional!
So I threw my hands in the air. I was done with Wal-Mart and Wonderbread. I wanted something real. -Excerpted from Jenna Woginrich's book, "Made from Scratch" a must-read! |

I love these ideas too.maybe I will not be able to do them all but some are "easy" to do even in a smallish backyard like mine :) Did y'all have a look at Melody's post about her "blooming teacups"?? TOO CUTE as well. Go have a look and see

Claudia, he took chain and secured (maybe welded?) it to the mattress frame part and hung it from the reinforced porch ceiling. They used the same boxsprings and mattress, only covering them with outdoor fabric. There's a pic of it I'm trying to find, but not sure if I can. The house has since sold, I think. I believe it was a double bed.
