I just read an old forum on homemade carpet refresher, where you use baking soda and essential oils to freshen the carpet. An idea that i have used for awhile now is using a regular spray bottle, fill it with water then put a few drops of essential oils in. It doe not have the harsh chemicals that the store bought items have in it and you can mix and match to make your own scent!

That's what I do. I don't like the store bought stuff and have been using water with essential oil for some time. It works well.

I too make my own and I thing they are great. I have one that smells like sugar cookies and I use it in my kitchen to make it smell like someone has been baking. Yummy!

Hi! I have a couple of cute olive oil jars that I put a bit of white vinegar and some essential oils, add a bit of distilled water, and use bamboo diffusing sticks.
Much better smelling, and better for you than the store-bought type. Bev |

I do the spray thing too, but for areas like the closet where the stinky shoes hide, I like to use something stronger. What I do is make a blend of essential oils like orange and lemon and mix it with a bowl of baking soda. I put the bowl in the back of the closet, where the essential oils cover up and the baking soda absorbs odor! You can than use the baking soda mix on your carpet later on.

Here's a recipe that I use: Scent Remover (like Fabreeze) – Add to spray bottle; ½ water & ½ alcohol (vodka), add 10 to 25 drips of essential oils if desired. Shake and use lightly in the air, fabrics like curtains or sofas, etc.

My Mom is a little bit of a germaphobe but she also refuses to use anything with synthetic chemicals or isopropyl alcohol in it. Now our family carries around those pretty cobalt blue bottles filled with a mixture of vodka, water, and essential oils. It freshens the air and can be sprayed on surfaces to disinfect. : )
