Hi there! I'm a new member, and a new resident in Kentucky. I grew up in California. I've owned and trained horses all my life, but, I've never really felt "comfortable" living in the city. Once I got old enough I ended up moving a few times, and found my self living with my ex boyfrind in a suburb. Well, exes are exes for a reason, and I was finally able to free myself, re-discover who I was, and move by myself into a small one bedroom apartment, working in a 30 story high rise smack dab in the middle of downtown Sacramento.
Here's where fate takes it's turn. I met a farmer from Kentucky. I was totally, 100% smitten. After months and months of flights back and forth, long phone calls, and sleepless nights, I decided to pack up and move all the way across the country onto a 250 acre tobacco and cattle farm in a TINY town called Paint Lick Kentucky. I moved in the beginning of December. I've never been happier. I've learned how to cook on a woodstove (during the ice storm we were without power for two weeks), build a fire, strip tobacco, set tobacco, feed cattle, plant a garden, drive tractors, mow, rake and roll hay...and now I'm planning a wedding! We're engaged to be married on October 3rd.
So that's a little about me, I can't wait to get to know some of you and share tips and recipes!
From a California girl to Kentucky farm woman, all for love. Starbucks and sushi to green fried tomatoes and corn pudding-I wouldn't change it for the world. |

Welcome from anothe rCalifornis girl turned Georgia peach. I was born way out there but have lived here for 30 years now. You sure have done a huge turnaround, for sure. That's alot to learn in just a few short months. Just think what you'll know by the time you're married! Congrats on that, too.
I know you'll enjoy it here. There a lots of Kuntucky farmgirls here. One from Knob Lick.

Thank you ladies for the warm welcome! I love it here in KY. I'm going back to Cali in a few weeks to visit family, and I'm devastated to leave the farm. 82kygal, Paint Lick is about 50 miles north of you on US 27. Not that far! Is there a group in KY that meets up at any point?

Welcome Megan, best wishes on your up coming nuptuals. You sound like you're making great strides in your life lately. It's great to hear how happy you are. So how did you land a KY farmer if you were working in a high rise in CA? I was in CT and met my hubby on eharmony and moved to ID 4 1/2 yrs ago.

Megan you have to meet Miss Wilma in Knob Lick. We meet in the fall at her house you need to plan to come. It is a blast such wonderful gals. 50 miles is not that far.

Welcome Megan!! I thought Kentucky was so pretty the time I visited there (7 years ago) I love the names of the towns too! My son lived in Possom Trot for a couple years. I am originally from CAlif too..but not the city..a beach town. Been gone 7 years and love it here in Utah. I will be going out there to visit my 2 grown sons in a few weeks too...and like you, hate to leave home. I am glad you found us!!!

Megan: Wow, that is a wonderful introduction you gave. I can hear the happiness in your posting. Great for you! City life was not for me. I married a man who lives in the country. He isn't a farmer but we have a garden, cats, dog, etc... Enjoy your time here. Marly
