I'm planning on finally starting to learn to quilt; improve my newly learned knitting skills, do a LOT of bread baking, rework our 5 Year Plan, lots of housework, more weaving than I probably have time for (I'm planning on getting a booth in March at a local Spring Fling arts, crafts, antiques and plants sale) and... oh. yeah. Christmas. I STILL don't have a clue as to what to do for that! My family basically turned up most of their noses when I gave them a Paradise Plantation basket a couple of years ago, and now my dh doesn't want me taking the time to make them anything. So, yep. I guess I'd better figure out pretty quick what I'm going to do for gifts. Yuck!

Thanks, Elizabeth! A Paradise Plantation basket is a basket that's been filled with a handwoven dishtowel, homemade soap & candle, and a home canned goody that was selected according to the tastes of the recipient. All things that I make on Paradise. Still want one? Email me. I have one left, and you are welcome to it. Of course, the home canned goody will be a little fresher than what they got two years ago!

Hi there! I'm finishing up making jams from all the strawberries and raspberries I picked this summer and working on quilts for my children and my nephew that are made from my daddy's old flannel shirts and some other special pieces that I saved from people that mattered in my life. I'm also working on more aprons! I used to be such a summer baby but I've grown to love the fall and even the winter! You guys all have such fantastic plans!

Yes, I do. I have a 45" floor loom. I'm still a beginner, but I'm getting better with each project I weave! Next on the list is spinning, and since I'm teaching myself to knit, they'd better watch out or they may all get hand spun, hand knitted sweaters for Christmas, and I might 'accidentally' make all the sleeves either way too long or way to short!!!!!

I have beeb thinking a lot about Christmas while I am doing my canning. Plan to do something similar to Julie. Hand woven basket filled with homemade jams, embroidered red work tea towels . Am also going to try my hand at cheesemaking. Would like to do some cheddar and havarti. Knit slippers for my bil who just mentioned that his feet are always cold. Flannel quilt for 1 of my daughters. Have started a cute picnic quilt for my son and his new bride. Fabris is chaecked with ants all over it, so fill fill up a picnic basket as well Michele

When your're out of a job it's time to get creative. What skills do you have that you could use to Make a job for yourself. A lot of great opportunities are out there. Let's get Mary Jane's advice on that. But I am praying for all of you. I know it is very difficult, but good luck. Just from a different perspective, when you get older and are "retired" from whatever; sometimes you feel "not needed" any more. But for most of us there is so much to do to help others with maybe we should find farmgirls in our area and brainstorm what we could do. Two heads are much better than one. Life has many stages and it only keeps getting better. Think as if!

ALEE! You are so my hero! I love your idea! Oh. I now have perfect images of sweaters for my yuppie, better-than-you bratty brother!!! Ha! I wish I was an artist and could draw you a picture. Alee, thank you for the idea. Can I come to you for ALL my mischevious solutions to family attitude issues?!?!?!?!

this will be a unique year for me..I don't have anyone but my husband and myself to take care of for a change..no building..etc.. for 10 years before our housefire i took care of my FIL dying of alzheimers..(right after my son was old enough to care for himself..i'm taking care of an old man in horrible shape)..then he died the same year ..one month after our house fire..lightening strike..so then we are being totally uprooted and starting over..new house..new garden and landscaping, painting, building decks..etc.. for two years..then my MIL died the day after our 35 wedding anniversary..we ended up having to flip her house and handle all of her business for 2 1/2 years until we got her house sold last fall..in the same period of time my son built a house next to us and we helped him..physically and financially..and summer was spent buildling woodsheds and other projects..soooooo I'm looking forward to winter to slow down and do some ME things..no building..no sellling..no financial problems and paperwork to deal with..just ME and Ron ..relaxing in a cozy home ...i used to teach crafts..now i hope to do some crafts again after 20 years.

I plan on shoveling snow and baking, shovel, bake, maybe some housework. I will be thrilled I don't have to get to work at 6 am I love being retired. I still have Gramma and mom and my grandson to take care of but if it's snowing really bad out I will put them on hold for a few hours or until the snow stops and the plow comes down the road.
Hope all your days are Sunnydays. dianebcarterhotmailcom.blogspot.com |

which reminds me, the fuel line still needs repair on the snowblower (it sat all last winter unused as no one bothered to fix it)

Rest a little, hopefully. I have been thinking a lot about Christmas. I only buy for the grandkids. We don't do much exchanging of gifts around here because it was getting too commercial and expensive. However this year I am working on recipes that are tried and true to make duplicate copies of and getting some inexpensive boxes to hold them. I think I might get the metal ones in the office supply and paint on them. I have been printing the recipes on my computer so I don't have to write them all. This is going to be for the grown kids. They are always calling me about cooking something, so I think they will appreciate them. I might even make a couple of extra for wedding gifts.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things. Robert Brault |

Ahh, as we finish up the canning and put the gardens to bed (although in our case, make new gardens at our new homestead) I am so looking forward to getting back to handwork. I, too, plan to knit up some slippers from the magazine, some scarfs, but... what homemade for men???? I always have a hard time with this. Maybe knit hats this year would work.
Thanks for all the sharing. Warm wishes, Tonya

For me winter is the time I read and quilt and scrapbook and plan next years garden but this year is going to be different for me. My middle daughter is getting married and the baby boy is a senior in high school so maybe a little planning on what we will do after he graduates will keep me occupied as well Tammyb
