Hi all! I am Kris and have been getting the magazine for a few issues now and LOVE it. My family consists of me (obviously), my hubby of 19 years, my two boys (ages 12 and 7) and my two dogs (labs). We live on an acre surrounded by several acres of private forest. It's quite rural here as people on our street have cows, chickens, horses, goats, and then we see wildlife such as deer, coyote, miscellaneous birds and squirrels.
I am wanting to try my hand at chickens, but we came out to this neck of the woods from suburbia 10 years ago and are clueless. What's the right word - greenhorns? Anyway, our dream is to own a small farm (or if we come into a windfall, a BIG farm!) so I can have my chickens and cows and goats. I would love the boys to grow up on a farm, but right now what we have has got to do. One of the boys is a total outdoorsy kid; the other likes to stay inside.
I work full-time from home and also sell Avon. My hubby just got his degree in Construction Management and is looking for work. He was disabled and can't remodel houses like he used to do, so now he needs a job where he's in charge of everything instead of actually doing the physical work himself.
I love to read (oh, how I adore it!) and I'm often found writing letters to friends across the country. I love to bake and cook, I like to scrapbook and do easy crafts. I take the dogs for walks, I feed the neighbor's cows, I play with the kids (soccer, baseball, tennis, etc.) and have a blast! They keep me on my toes!
Sheesh, I guess that's enough for now. I look forward to getting to know you! I think I've found a new home on the web.

Wow, thanks girls! Look at all you Washingtonians!
Yes, the town of Snohomish has some darling shops. I totally love to browse!
Chickens are easy, eh? My brother-in-law has had them for years. I totally want them for the eggs, but we have roving coyote and neighbor dogs that like to chase and/or eat the little guys. Hmm. Would need a good coop. I think hubby would rather wait until we have more land.

Krissy, Welcome to the group! If there's one bit of wit I can pass on to you, it's this "never give up on a dream... the ones that you realize will be worth it!" Have fun my dear and if you are ever travelling through the St. Louis area, let me know! Morgan

Morgan, thank you muchly! I won't give up on my dream EVER. It may be a pipe dream, but it (or something like it) will happen. Hubby and I are downsizing (getting rid of stuff) and trying to save $$$ in order to make it happen someday. I would rather it happen sooner than later though. lol

Welcome, Kristen! I think you'll love chickens. And you can do a small coop or house fairly inexpensively -- try looking on line for some free plans and ideas. I love my chickens (I'm up to about 50 now), and don't know if I could do without my fresh eggs and still be happy. Good luck with them!
