Ooh, zero calories now that's the place for me. I can't stay long but I'll sit on the steps so when I have to go I won't be knocking over teas or goodies! Those pumpkin loaves sure sound good. I've got some homemade whole wheat bread in the works if anyone has any jam I'll be glad to bring it along!

Nora loves the duckies. So cute. She runs after them saying "Duckie Duckie Duckie" It'll keep her entertained for hours!
Tonight up here it was cold snow/rain. Yuck! Way to early. I put Tala in the barn the for the night though, poor girl! She was shivering so bad. Julie- remember two years ago when I had gotten home from my friend's ranch and I had just seen Tala for the first time and gushed about how beautiful she was and how I wanted her so bad? You were so sweet and said that I would have her someday... You were right! She is just as wonderful and beautiful now. I am so lucky!
Sky dog is happy we are here too. She is such a good girl. My little doggie shadow!
Oh and look ladies! I got some more lines of my knitting done! :D

Thanks, Jeannie! Pull you up a rocker! Glad you could join us! Oh, Alee! Yes, I DO remember that! See? Just have faith, girl! And I am SO glad you did get her! Now, how did you do that last knit stitch? My beginning skills are horrible! I'm so glad I have you sitting next to me teaching me all this. What? Oh, yes, Nora, you may have a duck. Just pick you a couple out!

Nora got a bag of hair clippies from a friend and is playing with those today!
Phew! I am so glad for this rocker just about now, Julie! You have no idea! I had to run to town for a paycheck, cash it and then go shopping. Nora desperatly needs some cold weather clothes so we got some on a good sale at Wally World for $3 (still need to buy more but this will do good for today) and some new shoes that hopefully won't give her blisters like her others do. Then we had to run to the college because they haven't released my financial aid yet and well, we kinda need it... So after ages there we got a bit of the financial aid "Loaned" out to us. (Weird how they can loan me my own money, eh?)
Then we to run to the Big R store to get a horse blanket and of course they only had the ones sized for a full grown big horse but oh well she needs it. Oh and vaccinations too. So then we went to the horse ranch and put her blanket on, let her run around a bit and gave Tala her vaccinations!
And now we are home! Phew! And I have a Macro Economics test tonight YUCK! Have I ever mentioned I hate studying Economics? Bleck. ;)

Is the Tala tied up to the porch? Alee, can I ride her? I'm tired of sitting. Marly

Hi y'all. I would love to come where it's warm. It froze last night and has been raining for two days. I'll bring my hexagons out of Mary Jane fabric. I'll bring a crockpot of apple butter to put on home-made bread. Spices always make me think of the holidays. The porch swing will be wonderful. I have one on my porch (brrr) and outside in my wildflower garden (brr). I'll bring my guitar too. Seeyou soon

There's nothing better than hot chocolate, cookies, and a good ghost story. And after that a couple of good old guitar songs. Play it loud a good Bonnie so we can all sing along. Oh dear, looks like someone took my seat. Well Dawn looks like you'll have to scoot over again. Maggie |

whewwww, it took me too long to get back. I need to sit down and rock a while some of the grandchildren have been "helping" Nana with the fall garden. We made some Congo Bars and some Scotcharoos so I could have something to share with you gals. Now, what did I miss?

Here Maggie, sit on my lap! Lord knows I have enough room! "Okay...some say the violence that surround Booger Hole started in Civil War times. There were alot of battle fough in WV, but the state was known for a lot of guerilla action. The locals formed together and called themselves the Homeguard. They were neither Confederate or Union, but just wanted to maintain the Kanawha Valley and River and from raid, rob and pillage. James Rogers was an heir to 1000 acres of land granted by the Gov'ner in the early 1800's. He was a highly respected citizen of the community. Duirng these times of rebellion James and his neighbor Solomon became homeguards. It wasn't always known as Booger Hole. James Rogers owned most of this particle of land that ran up both sides of Rush Fork. James and his family made their home in the middle of the two forks of the Fork River. He was a very progressive farmer of his time and made a lot of money back in those days. Story tells, that one evening James and Solomon were on Homeguard duty and came across a guerilla unit. They followed them thru the forest for some time before giving up the track. They returned home late, happy that their wives were at an ill neighbors bedside. However, one guerilla soldier followed James and Sol back home and gathered a band up to drag them from their beds in the middle of the night. Now, if you've ever been in WV in the middle of the night, it's still. And dark. The trees are so big you can't see the moon less you're in a valley. The stillness is so loud it can drive a person to lunacy... The guerillas dragged the respected Homegaurds from their beds. Took them to a nearby hollow, bound them to a tree and riddled the bodies with bullets. That's how they were found the next day. The death allowed some of the guerilla bushwackers to come back and confiscate the land known as Rush Fork. This area made an excellent hideout as it was very isolated....which made it a grand place for the many atrocities to come....people traveling thru the wild West Virginia land took great heed to bypass this area....now known as Booger Hole......." (stay tuned more to come. I'm thirsty and hungry)

I am waiting on pins and needles to hear the rest.
I know it is just a story but in the early 1800s all of my ancestors were in KY and I have only driven through that area once and that was before I did my genealogy. On the same drive I went to WV. My great grandfather was born in Ky and moved to Mo in the mid 1800s and then to Texas in 1880. All generations since have been Texas natives. I love the picture you paint of that area. LaVonna

Someone asked if a chimnea would be a good idea. They are and they aren't. It depends on the wind. My neighbors had one and the chimney is not tall enough to send the smoke up and over the area. If the wind is blowing it can blow in a direction you don't want; like our porch. They moved it out to the center of their yard and when the wind is blowing the smoke comes our way anyway. Solution: a brick fireplace with a very tall chimney. Then it will take the chill off without annoying anyone. Thanks for sitting next to me Daisy Dawn. I love hexagons and music.

Thanks, Alee. I forgot that Tala is not old enough to ride. Sorry. I'll bring a bag of apples for her. I love the music. The story is scaring me already! I love this porch. It is just so cozy! Marly

Is there still room for me Belle?
I am bringing my embroidery; just a few flour sack dishtowels with my favorite herbs stamped on them; rosemary, mint, and thyme. I will have a glass of sweet tea please and will sit it on the porch floor boards next to my sewing rocker that creaks! I am still and content as my faint smile will reflect... just listening to the chatter of my good friends mixed in with the sounds of dusk settling over Paradise Plantation.
Always,

Okay, okay... It was 1932 and stories of Booger Hole had now spread far and wide. One day an 11 year old boy was helpin his momma gardening while his 2 sisters were playing on a hillside nearby with some neighbor girls. After a couple hours the Mother & Son heard laughter coming up over the hillside to which Momma said "the girls must be comin home for lunch". But they never got there. Perplexed Momma sent the boy to the house to see if the girls had headed in to clean up. They weren't there neither. Yet, they both KNEW they heard the girls a coming up that hill.......
