I've tried my hand at growing pumpkins. First off, I started them way too late. Know this for next year. However, what are those little black flying bugs that congregate in the flower? Are they eating the flower? Is that why one of the plants has no baby pumpkins on it? We had a rain and the leaves have developed a powder on them. What the heck is that? Any solutions you can give would be appreciated. Here are a couple of pics.

The powder is mildew cut away the leaves that have it on them and get rid of them not in your compost the black bugs might be gotten rid of by a spray of a couple drops of dish soap and water. Or do what I did and just leave them and they produced over 30 pumpkins.
Diana, where did you find seeds to grow a pumpking that huge? I would love to have a seed or two from that. Congrats on the blue ribbon. How much did it weigh?
