I'd love to hear some ideas on nice gifts that can be made without a bunch of time. I just finished a pair of wrist warmers (crochet) that turned out nice, so I'll be making a set for my mom for Christmas. Total time is about four or five hours of crochet time.
What else? It would be great to compile a go-to list for gift giving!
Crochet dishcloths
Mug cozy
iPod cozy
sewn placemats
sewn totebags, grocery bags
...

Pot holders, half aprons, pincushions, bookmarks, a set of handmade cards with envelopes....
Although none of these are crocheted, lol!! Can you tell I don't crochet?!!!!

I made some easy-peesy spice rubs for all the guys in my office and about, oh, say June, they were already asking if I could make that their Christmas gift again this year!
I found a great recipe called "Red Hot Firecracker Chili Rub" that's an all purpose for beef, pork and chicken, especially good for pan searing or grilling. Good for guys! I just calculated what I would need and bought multiple spice cannisters, utilized some of my errant jelly canning jars, and cut little festive holiday colored cloth to put over the lids. I tied them with red and green raffia and put "directions and how to enjoy" on the label and bammo! Instant favorite with the guys in my life.
I also made for other co-workers in my office, and my husbands place of business, candied pecans and spicy pecans. Both, also a hit and soooo quick and easy, and didn't break the bank, especially if you have an Aldi's nearby. They rock on baking and spice supplies.

A few years back, I made "breakfast bundles" for elderly relatives and neighbors that went over really well. Homemade canned wild bramble jam, "Cinnamon Bun Pancake mix" and some coffee hand roasted by a friend. I tied them all up in flour sack towels that I hand embroidered with a quick holiday message "Joy" "Peace", etc...and the date. Got rave reviews.

Oh...here's one that's not food related (and for me, that's a FEAT!). We took a family vacation to the beach with all the aunts, cousins, etc..and had such a great time. We talked about it all the time, so I made my mother and her sister a sortof shadowbox. I picked them up at Michaels (I think Martha Stewart?) and utilized some really great scrapbooking beach related stickers, real sea glass, beautifully colored scallop shells, all found on the beach when we were there. Also put in a photo of the Cape Hatteras light house in Mom's, and the Ocracoke Island Head Light for my Aunt, along with color-copied entry tickets to both (because it had the date we were there).
You could do something like that easily to mark any special remembrance.

flannel lined mittens made from felted sweaters, change purses from felted sweaters (utilize the rib for the flap); ipod covers, etc...the sky is the limit with felt (from washed sweaters) and it's super easy to work with and create.

Homemade vanilla:
4 c vodka
12 vanilla beans
Split each bean lengthwise, steep in vodka for 30 days or until strong as you like. Strain and put in bottles with vanilla bean.

Flannel or fleece PJ bottoms, with drawstring waists, easy and uni-sex, and with my crew I add mens under shirt tank tops for the top half, they come in all colors and sizes, for the girls you can add lace edges.

I am knitting on a loom, stocking hats, embroidering Christmas bread towels and including some cranberry pecan bread, packages of brats from a farmer friend,canned cake in a pint jar is way cool and will last for up to a year. Something I helped my granddaughters make recently was a flower pot. We used fall leaves, but it could be Christmas trees or holly.
You take a clay pot, and using contact paper cut out the shapes, and space them around the pot, cover pot with cordovan shoe polish and allow to dry. Cut out larger shapes of the same and place them over the spaces between the first ones. Then cover pot with black shoe polish, using liberally on the shoe polishes. Allow to dry, and then spray it with clear finish. It is just beautiful, and you could fill it with homemade cookies, or anything else. Something else that you could add is on the rim of the pot, space evenly, duct tape, and use the cordovan only on that part, giving it more of a wooden bucket look. The craft book showed a strip of metal attached just under the rim, which really made it look like a bucket. Really cool looking.

For my tea-loving friends, I've made tea baskets. I made a cute little sewn gift baskets. Then I sewed up some tea wallets, filled up the wallet with Stash teas. I put in some homesewn coasters that match the wallet and a ceramic tea bag "rest" in the shape of a teapot. And a box of green tea from a local tea shop. For some of them, I've put in a tea cosy (also matching) & teapot, too. You can add all sorts of neat things to customize: a tea ball, reusable tea bag, teacups, biscuits to have with the tea, etc., etc.
