I came across this vintage 1948 pattern at a local Thrift Shop & paid a whopping .69cents..... I researched fabric from that era and found this sweet brown fabric to re-create the 1948 apron. I bought this wonderful book that is a great referrence for vintage fabrics. I modified the assembly a wee bit as the majority of the apron was (back then) sewn by hand. I love it!

I choose not to add a lace ruffle as the fabric was very soft. Also, as always, I added yoyos to where the sash ties are attached. The pattern is a one size, but the apron is rather small, about a size 8 for todays size chart. The pocket is sweet but small. This is a cute "Hostess" type apron. >^..^< Happiness is being a katmom. Beautiful apron, and how neat you did research on the type of fabric used. I love the old patterns. I have a box of patterns my Grandma ordered from the Grit paper. Anyone else remember those patterns you could order thru the mail?

Love the vintage apron! I have hooks in my kitchen also with a number of aprons hanging from it. Depending on the task at hand or the mood I'm in, I can freely choose an apron!

I have a wash board hanging in my kitchen w/6 coffee hooks and each hook has an apron hanging....problem is I have about 80 plus aprons so I try to rotate them out. Not to mention I have one of those accordian type mug racks(that can be stretched out & have pegs on them) hanging down stairs in my sewing room & each hook has an apron on it....then there are my 3 headless mannaquins that I have aprons on and lets not forget the decorative hooks on the wall w/aprons...oh my, I think I need apron therapy! lol! >^..^< Happiness is being a katmom. addicting to make and fun as well.....plus most can be made from re-purposed clothing, feed sacks or new fabric. and triming them is also fun...just LOVE them! I think the next one I make will be a "quilted" one, but that will have to wait until after Christmas.... HoHoHO!

Willow - I'm with you. I love the very old patterns from "Grit". I do not have any of the sewing patterns, but do have some of the embroidery patterns. |
