Where do you all buy wool felt from? Our local sewing/quilt shop either has just the cheap felt squares(not wool), or big bolts of wool fabric. Is it the big bolts I want? Or is there a way to buy smaller quantities of wool felt? And, what exactly is wool felt? If I bought say a yard of wool off the bolt and felted it, would that be it?!!!
I keep seeing so many cute projects that I want to do with wool felt, but don't even know where to begin looking for it.

When I was doing a lot of felting I bought some wool at the fabric store, but I also bought a ton of wool at thrift stores and felted it myself. Many vintage clothing items felt really well...once in a while they didnt turn out well, but overall it was successful. I also overdyed some as I was felting.
I had a top load washer then and I used straight hot water and agitation to felt. Some pices I did on the stove.
Old clothing working for me as I was doing smaller projects. |

I went to the Catholic Charities store here and bought 100% wool suits. My project this winter is to take them apart and felt them myself. Any thrift store will have mens and womens wool suits. They must be 100% wool or they won't felt. The other alternative is to go to a good quilt shop and buy felted wool. You can also order from catalogs such as KeepSake Quilting.

OK, so felting my own would be good, but I also work full time so don't really have the time to do that. If anyone finds a good source, please let me know. You can get it at Primitive Gatherings, but it's expensive. I'm having trouble finding some that's affordable. I love to do wool applique'. I'll check Keepsake Quilting.

ok, I found this etsy store and it doesn't look crazy expensive but it's not 100% wool.
it's 20 9x12" sheets for $18! plus shipping that'd be just over $1 a sheet, not too shabby! and you choose all the colors! of course they are out of stock on the three colors that are all over my house... but we wont talk about that :)

I buy alot of my wool fabric and wool felt from Colonial Crafts. I don't know how they compare cost-wise to other sources, but the quality of their materials has been very good and they have alot of choices. I love shopping there because they have supplies for several different crafts I like to do, so I can one-stop-shop which is a good thing when you have to pay shipping. I prefer to buy local when I can, but there aren't many sources in my area that stock wool fabric and wool felt. Their packaging is really nice too - my orders come wrapped with a real ribbon and the customer service is excellent.
