Do you make lengths of tatting or just individual motifs? If you make lengths, what are you doing with them. I can only think of trimming pillowcases but I'm sure there are plenty of other ideas. Do you find that making lengths of tatting gets too repetitive?

Lorie,
I ordered the Handy Hands "Learn Needle Tatting" book and needle set through walmart.com. I did site-to-store so there was no shipping charge, just went down to the store when it came in and picked it up! I haven't gotten started with any tatting yet though! LOL!!

I recently picked up my tatting needle again. Wellllllll, I guess I'm going to have to reteach myself. I have forgotten everything and my fingers feel like all thumbs. LOL But I will get it again (I hope).

Guess what I did on a rainy Sunday afternoon?! Thanks Alee for the link to the heart pattern! Now I need to get some more pattern books with some different edgings, I only have the beginner book at the moment.

| Candy, what a beautiful job! Ok, now I need to find my needle and start in. I'm going to try the heart out first. This is going to be such fun. Told my girlfriend from high school about the farmgirls and she's excited to get on line and check us out. She thought learning to tat would be something we could do together. Sounds like FUN doesn't it. Keep making new things and be sure to share with us. |

Nice job, ladies!! Your hearts look lovely!! I am new to tatting and am still working a piece of lace that is only one foot long at this point. I keep plugging along at it.
Looking forward to more pics...

Alee: I love the heart you made. I just started tatting from Mary Jane's Stitching room book. All I had was a large darning needle and #10 crochet thread. It's really fun to do, once I figured out how to hold the stitches and draw through! I will be going to town today, to look for small needles - tatting ones now. I'd like to learn how to do more than the one row of picots. I think this is something I will really enjoy! judy |

Candy,
That is a beautiful heart. I am so excited I just picked up my tatting book and needles from Walmart yesterday. Thanks so much for letting me know about their site to store. My Walmart would have never carried tatting stuff but since i can order it on line and have it delivered it was great! I can't wait to get started. |

Lorie,
Glad you got your "stuff!" Let us know how it goes!
P.S. It took me three tries to get the heart right! LOL!

Ok I must say tatting seems very natural to me but I get confused on the pattern where it has me flipping the work over and tying a knot. I was trying to make the wreath in the back of the Happy Hnads book. maybe I should start on something easy like a strand of lace.

I just picked up a shuttle but I have no idea how to use it. I hope it is quicker than the needle - I am so slow with the needle that it drives me crazy. I'll have to search for a primer online.
