Hi there farmgirls! I am a new forum member and a new farmgirl sisterhood member. I have just received my third magazine and am head over heels and very lucky to have found you!

I don't know how much forum time I will have (I have a two year old daughter and a son who will be one in two weeks!) and they keep my pretty busy....but I am super excited for Merit badges! I was a girl scout for 10 years (and a leader's daughter to boot!) and I have tons and tons of old badges and was recently thinking how cool it would be if I could still earn badges. And low and behold, this issue of Mary Jane came with a whole section about the sisterhood and merit badges. Isn't it strange how things just come around to you like that? Kinda like my first issue taught me how to make homemade yogurt just two days after I met a homesteader who made her own from goat's milk.... and how my second issue showed up with sprouting trays out of repurposed veggie containers.... when I had seven of them sitting empty on the counter and was trying to decide WHAT cool thing to do with them?

This was obviously a sign that I was meant for the sisterhood!

I spend as much of my spare time doing crafty things (sewing, scrapbooking, crochet, embroidery, basketweaving, etc) and I love to bake homemade bread and and pastries and make purees and baby foods, and do some canning too. I am also a blogger and addicted to facebook and digital photography (Flickr I love you!) and I don't go anywhere without the Nikon in the diaper bag :)

We do as much "greening up" as we can here at home, which for us consists of cloth diapers (2.5 years going strong with both kids) and reusing clothing to make new and repurposed items... and we compost, recycle, and I also use mamma cloth and reusable cotton rounds for my makeup remover and toner. I love to Garden and I love animals....

I grew up on a 450 acre family farm... a centennial farm, and we had corn, soybeans, cattle (which are free range and grass fed, and we did that before we knew there was a different way (haha) and alfalfa. We also grew pine trees and sold them as Christmas Trees for years until they grew too big. We planted them as an erosion control and windblock (we live in a sandy soil area near a sand dune prairie preserve) and we sold the Christmas Trees to prevent overcrowding as they were growing.... and now they are all GIANT!

I went to school for agribusiness management and received that degree along with certificates of stufy in animal nutrition, beef science, and swine science. :) I worked in several agrculture positions before hitting the wall repeatedly as "the girl who makes the coffee" and eventually started to be very interested in computers- so I switched to a career in Information Technology and worlked for a hospital in the Information Technology department where I fixed and supported computers and computer users, and was the web and graphic designer for 6 years before deciding to have children and stay home with them.

I am looking forward to hopefully meeting all of you and I hope I have provided an okay amount of information (not too little or too much!) and thanks so much for having me here!

Meagan :)

Meagan, Welcome to the farmgirl connection. Sounds like you are in the right place. You will certainly find lots of people to connect with and ask questions of here. Everyone is friendly and helpful, and full of good ideas. I am from Illinois too, but don't know how close we are. I have goats and chickens and geese, a peacock and dogs. If all goes well I will have kids soon (speaking goats! not people) and have my own goat milk for homemade yogurt, and for meat. How cool you lived on a large farm. You'll have fun here. Glad to meet you!

Looking at your blog you sure do not have time for many more things to do. One day I might learn how to make, do and use a blog right now I have other tings to work on and do not wish to take the time to learn. The best to you and welcome from Virginia. Lilly
