Hello everyone! My name is Cynthia. My husband and I live in the Ozark Mountains in Northwest Arkansas. We live on a 160 acre farm. We have two beautiful children, Trenton and Ellinore (ages 4 and 2, repectively.) I currently have an embroidery business. But, I am considering closing it down to build our farm. I want to be able to do more things where our children are able to help and not feel like they are in the way all the time. So, I am here hoping to gain some insight as to the ins and outs of farming. I want to be able to offer grass-fed beef, eggs, produce, soaps, cheese (dairy products), etc. I am going to keep my equipment from my embroidery business (with the exception of two of my commercial embroidery machines) and perhaps use it all to create merchandise to sale on the farm (or via our reatil store of our farm goods.) I want to be able to make a living from our farm products.

So... I'm here to learn! I'm so excited to be here and look forward to getting to know everyone.

Thanks for reading this. (By the way, I am Sister # 852. I signed up a while back but was so busy that I didn't have the time to get on here.)

Hi Cynthia! I'm in Central/North East Arkansas! You need to check out http://www.arkansasfood.net/. They are planning a certified market to open in the Northwest corner of the state in 2011! Maybe you could look into doing something with them. I sell at their Searcy market. You need to check out my blog (the link is below) and read all about my little farm. Feel free to email me or whatever! So glad you are here!

Thank you Julie. I will check it all out. I'm still a little overwhelmed with everything out there. But I'm getting excited about making the leap!

Thank you everyone for your response and encouragement. I guess I'm just trying to figure out what's going to work and what's not going to work. I think we've decided to start with raising pigs and chicks. And then we'll add on if all goes good. Yes, we have a large farm, however it's not all usable land. Most of it is wooded and we live on the mountain side. But, we will figure it out.

I sure hope you get it together it sounds like a lot of work for lots more reward. Just burn the wood to heat you home in the winter that will help clear the land. Lilly
