Hi Y'all. Adrienne from Kentucky here. I'm pretending to speak with a southern accent, but realistically, I live in downtown with Starbucks on every corner (yuck) and shopping malls and a decent cityscape. I love to knit and sew. I have a 3 year old daughter who is wild and crazy. I've been gardening for a few years, but just recently buckled down and got serious with it. I'm going for storage this year!! Hopefully my mom will teach me to can things. I've got a big yard that would suit many kinds of farm animals, but the city has restricted me to a few chickens and no hoofed animals. Chickens it is! I just placed an order for 7 chickens a few weeks ago. I'm excited to show my daughter that eggs don't just appear in styrofoam containers at the local grocery store. I'd give up my day job in a NY minute to have backpain from working in the garden everyday. Pretty sure that the neighbors whisper things about me being crazy. I mean, I only planted about 100 sunflowers last year! When was the last time you saw a yellow finch in the city? I did...4-5 of them everyday around pm. They love them some sunflowers. I like being the crazy one though.
Any other KY Farm chickies on here?

Adrienne - welcome!!! You sound like my kind of farmgirl for sure - you will have fun with the chickens too. Get a bunch of egg recipes together - I have 7 dozen eggs in my fridge right now, and I've discovered that most recipes use no more than 10 or 12:D And canning is one the most fun things a farmgirl can do!! Hi, Adrienne! There are lots of Kentucky girls here. I live in Louisville part time. Today is my last day on my job here at Jefferson Community and Technical College downtown. Tomorrow, I'm heading out to our farm in Breckinridge County to do some real work! LOL!

Hey Adrienne..welcome from a fellow Kentucky girl. Northern Kentucky, to be exact. There are several of us on here, though--you sound like my kind of gal. I have a 13 month old, and live in an old suburb south of Covington (which is south of Cincinnati, OH). We have raised beds and plant a wide variety of veggies. I also can (canning some violet jelly this weekend). Envious as heck that the City of Louisville allows you to have chickens...our area does not, though I have often thought, "who would stop me?".
I'm in Louisville quite a bit (we eat at Lilly's on Bardstown road quite often) and love the area. And my most favorite Farmgirl, Janice, hails from there, too!
Stick around. I'm sure you'll find tons to do, comment, think on and love from the forum...I've been here for about 5 years now...CRAZY!

I've been the crazy nieghbor no matter where I've lived. It's one fun life! Plus the kids in the neighborhood are afraid to mess with my garden and flowers. No one knows what the crazy lady might do! HA! HA! Welcome!

Hey and welcome Adrienne. I love those little yellow finches. And they seem to get more yellow the more sunflower seeds they eat. They are beautiful birds.

Greetings Adrienne! Why be normal?!! I am the crazy one on my block, and I don't mind. I'm 52, tattooed, and living life!! Our garden this year is extending to the front yard, as I am sneaking in some edibles amongst the shrubs. Sunflowers! Ah, sunshine on a stick! I love them and have plans for dozens of them too! We have so many yellow finches, I hung a sock feeder for them and I love to sit outside and knit and they come by the dozens. So beautiful. Have fun here!!
