Hello Sisterhood. I could not be more thrilled than to be a new member of such a fine group. I stumbled on a Mary Jane's Farm flyer at the Food Co-op in Moscow, Idaho and have been checking it out off and on since last year. I finally joined, inspired by Rene's story of her Dream Board. I am at the place in my life...lots of experience, lots of education and training, good job and pay, but no fulfillment. I was inspired and returned to school in January to complete my Bachelor's in Business Administration with eye towards a Masters in Sustainable Business in the Nonprofit Sector. I do various forms of art...welding, bronze sculpting, painting, clay, building, photography, writing, etc. but my first love is repurposing things to be something else - something utilitarian (you can see pics on my photos tab on my FB page under Laura Suddath). I currently have a degree in Technical Writing and another in Code Welding. Yes, kind of unusual for a female. BUT I'm actually interested in being a Creative Director, and I did not find out until 54 years old ;-D. I want to wake up every day to spend part of my day thinking and finding creative projects and the other part making them and teaching others to make them. From the forums and photos I've seen here, I would say there are many sisters out there who would like to do the same! You all inspire me and I thank you for that, especially Rene and her Dream Board! Laura, Sister 1320, "Never settle for less, but never compromise yourself for more." L Suddath

I am a QA Field Engineer by professional (fancy name for welding inspector and paperwork shuffler ;-D). Personally, I weld all kinds of things. This year I have repaired a tractor for a neighbor so he could deliver hay to his cows, built a neighbor's son a seat casing for his jeep so he will be safer when 4-wheeling, and have built a couple of wood racks for my dad. I built a garden trellis out of repurposed piping parts, but need to work that out a little because I can barely lift that thing LOL. I studied bronze sculpting with Bill Barnett in Austin, Texas at the Sculptors studio at the Elizabeth Ney Museum and Park. He teaches the lost-wax method. I have completed five sculptures, all for gifts. The last one I did was a Cirque de Soleil type character for my husband's birthday. He loves and has seen all the Cirque de Soleil shows. I call the piece Cirque de Jupe (skirt), and you can see why if you visit my photographs tab on my FB page. I will be trying to build my sister-in-law a chuck wagon in the next few years, and have collected an old trailer frame, some angle and a tank. She will be thrilled to have something she can roast pigs on that is portable and you can hose it down! Anyway, enough about me, I have to go read all about you ladies and meet somemore of you!

Welcome! I like to repurpose things myself, but on a much smaller scale. My DH won't let me use power tools anymore. I ran a staple through my hand and broke my thumb the last two times I tried. I recently disassembled two old toilets and turned them into four different planters and garden statue display stands. Thats about as grand as I get. I think you'll enjoy it here.

Well Laura what can one say about your skills. Yes they are different for a female but who is to say what one should do in their life. I think it is great what you do and have and how you sue it for others. You will find your way to fullfillment and it would be great if the farm girls can help you do it. Lilly in Virginia
