Okay, this is the last thing I'll bother y'all with here! I'm just so revelling in sewing every day. Even my husband, who would love to see me have a room for all this stuff instead of clogging up the dining area with it, is glad I'm doing what I love to do.
I guess I'll put it up on etsy, but I wanted to show the girls first - I made an apron from a denim skirt I found. So the apron is more heavy weight than most aprons. I cut the back, added ties which are made from dishcloth material leftovers I had. The skirt has a ruffle and lace already in it. I also added two buttons and made a dishcloth with buttonholes, so you can keep your dishcloth with you as you go. There was a small tear in the bottom, so you can see I patched it with some red ticking and embellished that with embroidered X's. The apron has two pockets in the side seams (where the buttons are). The colors look a bit washed out in the photo, but they are all even and bright.

Very cute apron, maybe you should go garage saleing or to thrift stores and find more denim skirts or dresses and make more of these. Has to be a cheaper way to get the material. In fact you could even buy other skirts and turn them into aprons. How much are you going to charge?

Thanks for the feedback. I was thinking of $25 which might seem high, but because of the work of handmaking buttonholes and the cost of the new towelling. I had it leftover from when I made mine, but it's really nice towelling and I can't even find it anymore (it's a bit like birdseye). I think if I did more, I'd buy a bunch of flour sack towels and embroider them or do a small country/farm applique. But I think the handwork would still keep the price at $20-$25 each.
The buttons were fun. I have a bunch of buttons from the 50's through 70's which are all still on their original cards. I got them at an estate sale so they are like having Grandma's stash. I cut those two off a card. They seem to be chalk buttons; a bit dinged, but original and just off the card.
I'm a jeans girl! I think I like the idea of a denim apron more than any other because I'm always such a mess; I worry about "ruining" my kitchen aprons with stains and such. So I end up not wearing any to keep them pretty! Oh dear. |

That's a really cute apron, and I LOVE the idea of using old skirts. How ingenious! :)
