Hi! I just thought I would stop in and say hello. I have been reading through the boards trying to get a feel for everything. Now, that I am an official FarmGirl (just waiting on my number) I thought I might ask a couple of questions and introduce myself.

I am currently a resident of El Paso, TX but Upstate New York (Chautauqua County) is where I grew up. My father & older brother are a dairy farmers, I miss fall in NY but not the snow. Now home is where the Army sends us! Its fun and challenge but we wouldn't want it any other way.

As for the question I think I have two -
1) I see lots of Texas and New Mexico Chapters but only one within two hours of me So I was hoping someone could tell me what I should do - I want to socialize.

2) Related to #1 - we have been moving every two years, would I just move from chapter to chapter?

Farming is part of my heart - when we retire (which will be in just 9 short years) we want to settled down in the country; gardening, hunting and just enjoying life's simpler pleasures.

Well thanks for "listening"

Kari

A big Wisconsin hay dare to ya Kari! We are so glad you joined us. Keep looking for local farmgirls. I tried to find a WI chapter that is close to no avail, but found some farmgirls that were close enough to hook up for coffee. My DH is active duty air force and has been in for 25 years. He might be spending his next two before retirement in Texas!

Chautauqua County?!?! My mom was born and raised in Jamestown and moved out here in the mid-40s. I was in Jamestown about four years ago for a couple of days. It was early October and the colors were gorgeous! It's a beautiful area!

Kari, I am from Indiana and have a similar problem with being to far from the chapters. You have several options. You could start one of your own. You could post on 'across the fence' that you'd like to know if anyone is close enough to set up a coffee date. You could also see if one of the chapters would like to meet you half way for the meetings. You could also start spreading the word to other army ladies in your area, maybe some would join and you'd have a few close to meet up with. I know none of these are ideal suggestions, but it's some of the things I've been thinking of doing. As for you moving and belonging to a chapter, you can stay in touch virtually with your old chapter, and find a new one in your new area to meet with physically. You don't have to quit the chapter. I hope some of this helps. Welcome from Indiana!

Howdy from south Texas. I moved here in July from Ohio.

I don't have a close chapter either.

Everyone here is great and very helpful. I am sure if there is one, you will hear of it.

Hello and welcome Kari. Dont make it hard just settle in and things will work out. You do not have to see some one all the time to be friends and enjoy like things. I havew a friend which I became friends with in the sixties. We have not seen each other sence either. Both our dads were in the Army. Hers got out early mine retired in 72 in Virginia with thirty years of service. Maxine and I have always writen. We finished school we both got married we both had kids her four me two we both have gradkids her five me four we send gifts and call each other from time to time. Where there is a will there is a way. You can do it if you want to. That two is what Mary Jane is all about. Lilly still here in Virginia

learning the life I always wanted.

A Big Farmgirl Welcome from the state of Wisconsin. I really don't have anyone close to me either. But try to make connections when passing through an area. Good Luck and God Bless!

Small world! I grew up about 45 minutes from Jamestown and my family still calls that area home.

I appreciate the suggestions - once I am a little more familiar with everything I will definately join a virtual group. And hopefully over time more and more people will begin popping up on these boards.
