I went to the farmer's market again yesterday and got some garlic scapes. I have never had them before but have heard of them and always wanted to try them. So tonight I cooked some pork chops and cut up the garlic scapes and put them in the pan with the chops. They were really good. Not as garlicky as when raw but very tasty. I liked them alot and will have them again.
I also got a few baby bunches of kale. I have never eaten kale that I know of. And other than being a garnish on a plate never had a desire to have any. But at the market someone was getting some and I asked her how she fixed it. She said she roasts them in the oven then puts salt on after they are done. They are kind of like chips. So I tried that last night and I must have had the oven too hot and got them too done too fast. They were awful! Yuck. I won't do that again.
So has anyone else been trying new foods? What are they and what did you think of them? And how did you prepare them? I am always interested in new things. So share away, ya'll.

I made some curry and it was wonderful! A little too spicy for the boys, but they liked the veggies. I've had it at several different restaurants, but never at home.
Your dinner sounds yummy! Happy you found some good farmers market finds.

Lol, kale chips? Yuck! I have heard of them, but it just doesn't appeal to me AT ALL.
Kris, I take kale and chop it up pretty fine and use it on top of things like tacos, etc...anywhere you'd use lettuce.
One thing I have tried that we all enjoy is sauteed chard. I have never had chard before, but I was growing it, and I didn't know what to do with it. Well, I now have a friend who has an organic farm and they grow ALL of that kind of unique stuff! She showed me how to do it.
Cut out the thick part of the chard stems if they are large (not if they are the small type), and slice the chard in about 1" strips across, and then once down the rib. She takes some olive oil (I use butter, I'm from the South, lol) and browned chopped onion in it on medium heat. I did the same, but I cut out the thick stems and diced them, too and browned those, and added fresh pressed garlic in for about the last 20 seconds of cook time. When they are soft, I turn my heat down to low (she just turns off her pan) and throw that sliced kale in there, flipping it quickly. This part probably only takes about 20 seconds, you will know it is done when the leaves get very bright green. You don't want it totally wilted, you want it to stay a little crispy, like stir fry, you know? She served hers over quinoa and topped it with pumpkin seeds and crumbled goat cheese. I am not the biggest fan of quinoa, though. Anyway, it tastes really good!

Amanda, that sounds really good. It's kale and chard? I am growing shallots this year. I can't wait to be able to use them. I did grow chard last year but never cooked any of it. I know. Very wasteful. But I will try it this year.
Ashley, the curry sounds good too. I like a little spice but can't handle too much. And I need a big ole glass of ice cold milk to drink.

My ten year old son is growing rutabagas. I'm going to need a recipe before they are ready to harvest. I've never cooked or tasted a rutabaga.

We had garlic scapes last year for the first time. Loved them! We're looking forward to them again this year only more of them. I plant chard every year. Mostly we use it raw in salads just like spinach. This year I'm growing shallots and leeks. We'll see how that goes. I've eaten them both but never grown them myself.
