How can I keep my indoor/outdoor cat from using my neighbors sandbox as a litter box? My neighbor isn't willing to cover the box. I have tried training the cat to be indoors only but it isn't working.

we have 2 sand boxes and both need to have covers. we have no cats. we do have neighbor cats come in here. i bet yours is not the only cat using the box. they do not know the difference. looks like a big potty box to them. sorry you have this issue. i have no solution except a lid on the box. happy days sherrye
I agree. She really needs to keep it covered! Kids can pick up all kinds of nasties out of a sand box that is being used as a neighborhood communal litterbox!!! I'm thinking of toxoplasmosis, hookworms, etc. Ugh.
You might want to do a google search on Toxoplasmosis, memorize some of the key facts and then pay a visit to your neighbor about please covering the sand box.....no matter who has cats or not.
If it were me, I'd even make an offer to pay for a portion of the lumber or part of a tarp.
Even raccoons have been known to deficate in soft substrates like that too...so double gross!
That is utterly disgusting.
I can still remember plaing in my own sandbox and coming across cat feeces. We had an indoor/outdoor cat as did our neighbors, so it really was hard to tell.
