Just wanted to say howdy to all you already on the Farmgirl Connection. I am a young-timer farmer in Eastern Washington, working on getting a farmer's market stand together for next year and planning out what I hope will be a vibrant garden. Although spring seems far off, I have been spending the winter learning how to sew (shirt collars and sleeves have been painfully difficult to learn) and watching in facination as my new baby (Beau, 8 months) changes nearly every day.
When I am not wistfully thinking of warmer weather, I am also self emloyed as a freelance agricultural writer. I cover every thing from bovines to begonias, chickens to cantaloupes. As a stay-at-home mom, its a great job to have.

| Just starting to figure out how to navigate this forum. I am a home-based magazine editor/writer with a horse farm located one ridge away from Mary Jane's Farm. No surprise -- my professional subject matter is horses. Great for producing tons (literally) of organic fertilizer! |

On the subject of writing projects: I just finished a feature article for Western Horseman magazine (my main client) about Evelyn Cameron, Montana's pioneer photographer. There's a person who could have taught us a thing or two about organic living; she helped support herself and her husband by raising and selling produce to cowboys, ranchers and settlers in early-day Montana. Her period of photography was 1994-1928; most of her pictures didn't come to light until 50 years after her death.
As a telecommuting writer and editor, I'm fortunate to be able to live where I choose and still be able to earn a living. I'm one of those "boomerang people" who populate the Palouse -- lived here, left, and was compelled to come back (not once, but twice). They'll never get me out of here again!

Hi Julie, and welcome! Did you mean 1894-1928 on Evelyn's work? Is there a link to some of your articles that you could post? That sounds so interesting to me, and I'd love to read more!
Maybe post it in the reading category, and start a new thread for Writing??? Hope you can!

Yes, I did mean 1894 as the start date for Evelyn Cameron's photos of pioneer Montana.
The definitive book on her work, "Photographing Montana," is out of print. However, you can find links to articles about her via the Montana Historical Society--www.montanahistoricalsociety.org.
If you're curious, the web address for Western Horseman magazine is www.westernhorseman.com. My article on Evelyn Cameron won't appear until April 2005. I usually end up writing about horse training and health, so this was a nice departure as a topic. |
