..those plastic bag from the grocery stores. (We hardly get them anymore, but use what we have for nasty projects.. anyhow)
..this plastic bag was hanging minding its own business!

...just a shot for y'all to appreciate where this bag is located

...look! it is someone's home!

...here is the story that lead to this discovery! As you can see the drop screen in the rear of the middle picture, this leads to the Beagle Haven a.k.a. my back yard. Well on beautiful days, we leave the kitchen side door that leads to this porch open for Abigail to go in and out at her leisure. Then we got a surprise one day.. there was a bird in my kitchen and dinning area. With patience we lead the bird out and it went on its merry way. Next day it was beautiful day again.. door stayed open... then OHMYGOSH! the bird again... but it brought a friend with it on the second visit. Out they went as if they owned the place. I started to observed these lil rascals from the kitchen side window and saw them again in the screened porch. Curious sights began! I watched this lil birdie hop onto the wheel of our grill and fly into the plastic bag. This got me perplexed for I could not understand why anything would want to go into the bag of trash... hubby's ciggie butts of all things. they flew off and out of the porch. I went to investigate closer and peered into the bag. There was this pile of dried leaves, moss and building supplies for a lovely new home but oh gosh.. said to self.. eww why in that stink (please be not offended about my remarks to smoking and stuff... a former smoker myself). so I got a new bag... three of them infact, to be sure it will be strong to hold a home. I also placed an old basket that someone had once used as a nest, containing some nesting stuff already in to the bag and rehung it at the location. Hoping that they would decide they didn't like to be bothered in their new home... they came back and build up their home. Now mind you.. this bag is easily within my beagle's nose! (she just walks by and sniffs a lil and walks off. Well to my dismay, they LOVE their new home and have continued to build their home.
I really hope it is way past the season to nest for babies.. but I do not know. I have searched for what type of lil birdies these are... they are House Wrens!
Time will be very interesting if they have some fledglings!... and my beagle? Oh my word.. Lord prepare me!!!!! LOL

Karrieann, that is just wild!!! I have never heard of little birds being so absolutely trusting and determined!! You will have to keep us posted and let us know if they have babies.......it's either that or they're building their winter home, but how odd. I think it's hilarious that your sweet dog just sniffs and keeps on going! Nature at it's finest!! Thanks for sharing the pictures and the story!! Hugs and smiles, Lin

now you realize that means no barbaqueing, lol! Also, so you know, house wrens will raise up to 3 clutches per season, weather permiting.

That is so sweet. I hope they have lots of pretty little babies. They know where to build nests where they will be protected. I guess they feel like you are their protector now. Let us know what happens!

How fun! I love my little wrens, we have an old train light in our front yard and they nest in there every year.

..well, time have been amusing with my feathered friends. I rotated the grill around so that their nest in the bag was more sheltered in the corner, I had to go back and forth to the door beside them... it is my laundry room. I was certain that I may have scared them away . I saw no activity and decided to carefully peek. I saw nothing then I went to open the bag better.. then I got startled when the bird flew out. Then I was disappointed with myself... surely I scared them away this time!
Well, Hubby reported that he have seen the bird doing it's chore of bring bugs back and forth to the bag. I was elated! These past days there were an increase to their activities. We saw one out the nest as other went in... feeding time in full force! The bag would gently sway from their goings in and out.
The day before yesterday.. it was so chirpy! ...loud chirpy none stop chirpy! Parents hanging out on the pear tree chirping .. one youngster hanging out on the shelf of the grill. Then yesterday, it got so rainy.. a great downpour! After the rain subsided, I noticed two wittle birdies sitting onto of the pole that holds my drop screen huddling together as the parents were on the tree and fence encouraging them.
I managed to capture this for y'all...

Today I have not noticed any activity in the porch.. I think they moved out to a nest in the bushes beside our fence... I still hear their chattering chirps ... I feel I miss them already. I am so proud of my beagle as she did not bother them as they hopped in and out of the porch for past two weeks! She just merely watched them and looked to me, as if to say MOM LOOK... the birdies! :o)
