Thought I'd share ANOTHER pic of my dad's handiwork.
I'll bet that none of you farmgirls have one of these contraptions!!!

My dad was an inventor out of necessity as a farmer. For many years when I was growing up he raised potatoes . . lots of 'em. He sold them local markets and built this thing to hang potatoe sacks from as we filled them for market. It goes around, has several arms on which he welded hooks, the sacks sat on a round "rod" platform on the bottom.

Well, this is another one of my claims from the farm and has been sitting in the back yard so long that a sagebrush was growing up through it. In order to earn one of the badges that requires using at least 15 tin cans in your garden we got it out of the sagebrush. I cleaned it up with wire brush and repainted it. Took my cans, drilled holes in the bottoms and ran baling wire through making little hangers and hung them on the "arms". I had a big metal snipped and bent flower that I attached to the center.

It goes around and the swinging cans do make a jingly sound. This sits at the bottom of my garden and "Sadie" stand guard at the top of the garden.

Another fun & funky projects . . . thanks dad!!!

How ingenious-my grandpa was like that-he pateneted a harrow way back when that had wings that raised up so the farmers could do bigger sections. Wish I had some of that thinking.

CJ! Thanks for sharing.. it brings out the memories of my Grandpa, currently age 91. He was a carpenter whose specialty was cabinet making. He always created many things for us grandkids with the left overs.. rocking lamb, swings with horse shaped swing, ..many things!

I was talking to our neighbors just this morning at Farmers Market (we have a vendor booth there) and talking about this "Garden-go-Round" them. Of course they weren't around these parts back in the potatoe raising days so they didn't know what it was. But they did say they have enjoyed twirling it around and listening to it.

I'm glad my neighbors are enjoying it too!!

Thanks girls . . . this was fun!!! After doing this project and the gate I was looking out the bedroom window and, lo and behold!!!

Another project in the making. Sitting out there unused for many, many years are two chicken nests that . . . yup, you guessed it . .
my dad made. He used 55 gallon drums and his "invent out of necessity" skills and made two of them. We used them in the henhouse back when I was a kid and there were about 300 laying hens. We "cabbaged" onto these two when we had our own chickens some years back . . been sitting in the back yard for a long time.

Hmmmmmmm . . . now what will I come up with next!!!! Guess we'll see, huh??
THANKS AGAIN!!

What a clever invention! I can totally see a bunch of potato sacks hanging on there while several people fill, turn and someone unloads the filled sacks onto a truck and hangs new bags. And I like it's new life too! I love it when people have funky garden art!
