A few night ago...something got into my hen house and killed some baby chicks. Now the hens won't go in at night. Some are still laying eggs in there, but not many. I have tried to coax them in by putting their feed in the house (it's usually outside) any suggestions...and why aren't they going in?

That's terrible! Sorry that happened. I am not sure what to tell you, haven't had that happen...yet. My assumption would be they won't go in because they are scared, but as far as how to convince them how to go back in, I would have tried what you tried with their food. Hopefully someone will have a better suggestion than me! good luck!

you need to make sure that there isn't a snake in there hiding, or anything else, make sure that there isn't a hole that something is useing to get in and out, if the chicks were just killed and not eaten, it may have been the hens accidently trampleing them do to an outside noise.

yes, I believe the birds were eaten....why I phrase it like that is there were teo carcasses left and the ohter 4 were gone . My husband thought it might have been my dog, but I don't think so as she had no blood one her and the bigger hens still go near her. I don't mind the hens staying out at night, but I am worried that whatever killed the young ones, they might kill the big ones too.

So sorry this happened. I say give them a little time and maybe an apple. My hens love apples!
