We just put our chicks out full time 3 days ago. They are 11 weeks old. I have one Dominique that is laying down in the sunny part of the run. She is not laying like she is nesting, it is a bit sideways, I can see one leg off to the side. Then all of a sudden she perks up and runs around like normal. No one is picking on her or pecking at her. She is eating and drinking, scratching and pooping like everyone else.
Do they have different positions of relaxing? I remember one of the chicks used to lay "odd" when they were about 6 weeks old and it's turned out just fine. It laid kind of like a duck with it's head tucked back on it's back with a foot out, not tucked under.
Thank you for your thoughts, Stephanie & Amelia Bedelia ( we think her voice is changing too, heard some grown up noises yesterday! )
Oh, I also have a Buff that quacks like a duck! What a funny farm!

Stephanie,
Chickens love to 'sunbathe'. They will often lay on their sides, and look very, very much dead, lol. Suddenly, they will pop up and run around. I have gone outside several times to check on them and they run off at the last second. I think they laugh at me! Lol.

Mine do that when they are sunnin'. It took me a while to realize they weren't half dead.

Thank you very much for all the replies. I was worried, I felt a lump in my throat the first time I saw her like that. Then the 2nd time I felt it in my tummy, till she got up and scurried off. Then I knew I better ask the experts! & you all came through. I am glad she is so happy and comfy in her new surroundings that she can sunbathe with no worries.
