well farm girls, i have had fine results from the kombucha kris sent me. so now i raise the question...if the ph is tested and in correct range could i substitute kombucha for my acv raw unfiltered i put in stock and chicken water tanks? seems to me since it is just enzymes and bacteria it would be beneficial to them. i did a quick search and found nothing on line so far. thanks happy days sherrye

Intresting question Sherry. Somewhere I read about one lady giving it to her chickens but thats it. There's not much info online either.

thanks channah, i think i will research the microbes and bacteria that exist in kombucha. then i will compare the colonies to the colonies in the guts of cows goats and pigs and chickens. many times the enzymes and bacterias are the same families. they exist in all plant and animal life.if this is the case then i can research the effect of the acidity of healthy kombucha. i use raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar in my water tanks now for health and worms. just my thoughts happy days sherrrye

I am going to the Chattanooga Market this afternoon and will ask around there. Someone would have to know this. Or else tell us where to look. I have plenty and would be interested in this also. It seems to me that there are so many beneficial bacteria that it would have to be good for them. It's been good for me. But then again there might be something in it that might harm the rumens of the goats or cows. We can give them yogurt and kefir though.
Ashley, did you get some kambucha from me? I know Sherry did. But I have some more babies. If anyone needs them. And I will be going to Spring City for our reunion, not sure if it will be Aug. 1st or the next weekend. So if you still want the kefir I could meet you somewhere. We go Hwy. 27 through SC to the road that leads to the lake. Lemme know.

That would be great. I'll meet you wherever in Spring City on whatever day you'll be here. I didnt get my kombucha from you, but am working on a good sized batch, so I can start drinking it everyday. I'd love to get some kefir. Just let me know when and where and I'll make plans to meet you. Thanks so much for thinking of me!

Heather (Quiltin Mama),
You said you give your hens kefir? May I ask why, how often and does it affect egg production in any manner?
My chicklettes, 7 laying but one of those broody again, were giving me an average of 3 per day. Down from 5/6 or so. One lady at the feed store told me to stop the fruit which could stop the eggs for up to a month.
So...I am interested in any ol' thing for the benefit of the girls (I only give them organic feed and goodies)

hi darcy just a thought here. if you give them too much regular food scraps sometimes they eat too much and do not lay. they must consume enough pure protein to get the 16 percent they need a day to lay an egg. chickens on average lay 2 eggs every 3 days. cut back on goodies of all kinds so they will eat more chicken food.just a thought happy days sherrye

I give my chickens clabbered milk. I have 1 goat that I use her milk for this. I give it to the chickens and now the turkeys also. And the dogs and cats like it. They get it every day. I have not noticed a drop in egg production. Plus they get scratch and scraps.
