See if you can slow down the feed/gulp cycle if your dog eats really quickly.
Have heard mixed things about the elevated feed platforms
Read somewhere where kibble size (too small) may be a factor
And do not feed before or after really strenous exercise |

Also just read to feed the dog more smaller meals throughout the day rather than just one big one.
Avoid having the dog roll over at least an hour or two after eating
To do the kibble test, wet the food let it set overnight and see how much it expands to represent it expanding in the gut.
Might want to feed higher quality foods too that limit grains or don't have them in it at all.
It also said to avoid feeding pizza crusts. Not sure why, could be the expansion thing again

My dog was eating too fast so I got him a special bowl with three raised bumps in it. It's called the BrakeFast bowl but I don't know who makes it.That slows him down considerably. Plus I cook for him now and he doesn't get kibble. Bloat is caused when the dog gulps too much air. Some people put the dog's toys (like a tennis ball) on top of the food to slow down the eating process. I've heard mixed reviews about elevated feeders, too.

I think the key is letting your dog rest at least 40 minutes to an hour after eating before play.

We also have labs and feed them from the bowls with the bumps. One of them used to eat so fast he would then throw up his food the new bowl has taken care of that. Bought the bowls from a catalog and highly recommend them

Sarah, all surgerys have a risk factor, and an elective surgery in my opinion is foolish unless the dog has had problems already. Do you know the breeder, and do their dogs have this problem, dam, sire, siblings?
A good, non gasy complete food is key to avoiding bloat, feeding small meals several times aday, no strenuous exercise after eating, especialy when hot, cause they tend to gulp water. Get 2nd and 3rd opinions from vets before commiting to any elective surgery, good luck.

Our experience:
Our dear dog Darby passed away 24 hours after being given 3 x the normal amount of food by an eager to please toddler. Our whole family had always been careful about feeding Darby away from other dogs food and stashing food safely away. It was a 1 minute mistake on my part and it shouldn't have happened.
Tell anyone you know of your concerns, my little one was just trying to help out & Darby ate till she couldn't eat any more. That is how I knew something was wrong, there was food left on the floor for the first time in 12 years.
