I'm so excited to be able to go!
This is a local lady, who started her lavender garden, started making her own soaps, opened a little shop at her house, and 3 years ago had her first festival. I've been every year!
Last year I bought 2 plants and found a perfect spot for them, they did beautifully! I want to buy more this year, but have to find a spot for them first.
I will buy cut lavender from her today though, I make a lot of sachets for gifts, and just generally like to have it around too!
My 3 girls will be going too, and maybe some of my grandchildren.
There will be all sorts of activities and booths to see.

Brenda, please tell me what variety of lavender you have. My neighbor says the Hidcote that I have doesn't make the best sachets. She has a different variety, but doesn't know it's name offhand.

That sounds like such fun. And smelly good too. I can't even imagine the smells at that place right now! And ya'll will smell like it all day too. Have a great time.

I LOVE Lavebder, my plants are now SO pretty and full :) I have already cut quite some lavender when I got back...still a LOT more to cut yippee. Also my pale PINK lavender is doing great this year, for the first time :)

hey Betty in Passco, WA...I am up here in the West Plains of Spokane,,,,shoot, we are practacly neighbors! lol!
Anyhow, Grosso intermid., is probablly your best bet...if you can get any lavender plants that come from the Sequim WA. area all the more better. Since they are hardy to our 5 zone...I am a 4 3/4 zone as I like to call it! lol!
Remember, they are a drought tolerant plant, luv sandy type soil...Never Fertalize and Never use pestacides!
Check out Susan Harrington's Lavender Farm over on the West side of the state...
She teaches, gives seminars & sells her lavender....she is a great resource.

Oh Kristen,,,it is the most delightful smell, to walk amongst the lavender, run your hand across the plants, cup the buds up & stick your nose right down in them...even the butter flies flutter in pure joy!
Both the bees & I do our Lavender Happy Dance when out in the field...'course my neighbors think I am whacked, but who cares!lol!

Grace, I googled the Lavender you mentioned and it certainly looks like what my neighbor has. It isn't the boxy stuff like I have that is growing so huge. I am ready to pull it out and start over, since it doesn't take that long. I agree with you about the sandy soil and drought tolerance. That stuff is strong as an ox. As soon as I can get outside and it cools off some, I will get it out of the ground and get some new stuff in there. I'm getting to the point that if the plant doesn't want to produce what I want, then it's curtains for the plant!

Well girls..... I didn't end up going....
My golden retriever Bonnie stayed true to when I thought she was due and gave birth to 13 puppies yesterday!!! I was just starting to get ready to go, and could see she was agitated! It took her almost 12 hours to have the pups. They are beautiful and healthy, and so I think I can go run over to the festival today for a bit, am still excited to get my lavender. Plus, there is a homemade dog biscuit lady there that sells her biscuits, so I can bring home a yummy treat for Bonnie and Bear!
Betty- I know they sell many different varieties there, but I will ask when I get my lavender for sachets, what type they are cutting for me....
Angie- It would be so fun if some of us could meet up there next year! She's in Red Creek, just off route 104. It's probably about an hour and 10 minutes from Henrietta, so you could go from there.

I have some lavender of undetermined variety. I have never used it for anything other than ornamental in the garden, but I think I will find some ways to use it this year.
Angie and Brenda- I am right between you two, located in Rochester. My best friend lives in Red Creek so I am out that way often. I am a bicyclist and often ride in the Avon area- beautiful farms and gardens to ride by! I have ridden from Rochester to Red Creek too! If the NY Corkers group doesn't meet perhaps we could meet sometme.

Aw, puppies! And 13! That's alotta pups. I guess that did take awhile. I hope you get to go today. And have fun. I want to go do something today but don't know what. Maybe the Chattanooga Market. But can't spend any money. It's fun to look though.

I did end up getting over there on Sunday! I spent about an hour, bought 4 big bunches of cut lavender- grasso it is by the way Betty!
I also bought 4 more plants! My daughter wants 2, but I am going to find room for 2 more somewhere! I was telling the people who sell the plants every year, how well the ones I planted last year were doing and they were amazed, lol!!! I actually harvested a whole bunch of mine yesterday too!
Lida- you ride right by me when you ride to Red Creek! We're on Ridge Road in North Rose, but I am assuming maybe you ride Ridge Rd. since I never see bicyclists on 104?!! My daughter lives in Red Creek so I'm out there a lot.
I am loving the smell of all my lavender!
