I'm not sure there is a way to fix this, but ants keep getting on and in the hummingbird feeder. Does anyone know a way to keep them away? I have the feeder hanging from a curved metal pole in my yard. Maybe put baby powder on the pole? Thanks everyone!

I hang the feeder with fishing line they can't seem to craw down it or maybe the ants just can't see it.

Good idea, Diana. I never thought of that. I get them also but not too many. I seem to notice them if the feeder hasn't been changed in a few weeks. I try to keep it as fresh as possible though. I just changed it today. I put honey in the water this time. I hope that's ok.

Two weeks ago I had a feeder full of ants, so sprayed the shephards hook with Pam, that took care of them, just sprayed it again the other day, still, no ants....try it!!

| One year I bought ant traps for the feeders, but haven't seen them anymmore, but they were basically a plastic spray can lid filled with water tied into the hanging line. I'm going to try the Pam spray when I change the feeders and clean them tomorrow. |

I normally use an ant trap filled with water also. You can find them at places like Wild Birds Unlimited, Duncraft, Hummingbirds Forever, Amazon. Try the search terms Ant Moat or Ant Guard. Another trick that really works is vaseline or sticky-trap glue - but I'm going to give Pam a try because it probably isn't as messy for the humans!
