My husband leaves for work at 5AM & came in to tell me that our little buckling was down. Has been up & about but a little quiet. Not himself. I am at a loss at to what it could be! No cough, no bloat, no tremors, no temp, just off feed & down. He hasn't liked being separated from his sister. I just hope & pray he is ok when I come home from work! I want so badly to take him with me but that probably won't work! I have lost 21 duck in the last couple of weeks I don't want to lose a goat too!

Karla, is he by himself? He could be lonely. I hope he's ok. Maybe give him some Kaopectate or some plain yogurt. SOme B vitamins. Check his feet too. It could be anything but these are a few suggestions. I hope he's up and normal soon.

Maybe the buck head butted him. That can hurt. I have had does head bett other does and they would be hurting for days after. It can mess them up. Once one of them had a bruised udder.

I hope you get him back up soon.

Any little one with an older one that could be the issue - I might pull him and watch him. Did you take his temp?? Also how is his eating?? If the weather is putting him off his food then he might have his guts upset. Yogurt is a great start and I would also maybe give him a bit more minerals. Did you check his eyes??? Keep us in the loop... Hope all goes well.

I put him in pen away from the buck. He is not eating-it is definitely hot here.

Karla, have you checked his chin or jaws? And his eyes and gums. If they are white he may be full of worms. And if his chin is real puffy and mushy that would be bottle jaw. Very serious worm infestation and needs to be treated ASAP. It's 100 here right now and all 4 of my goats were out in the sun eating. I just freshened up all the water bowls and buckets with nice cold well water. I hope he's better soon. Please let us know. Also I would try a few syringes full of plain yogurt or even buttermilk if you have that.

His eyes are somewhat white so I wormed him. He is still alive at 6:30PM. I gave him the yogurt also & he is just laying there. I don't know what else to try!?!I checked everyone else's eyes & they all look fine-is it possible to have just one come down with worms?

Will he stand on all fours? I would get him standing and make sure to walk him around a bit. Have you taken a temp??? If he is experiencing a fever then childrens liquid tyenol (Not sure of spelling) might aid. Also check to make sure if he can not walk is it because of broken bones. Has he pooped? What did it look like?? All of these things will assist us in assisting you.

Karla, yes, it's possible for one goat to have alot more worms than others. I had one of my does with bottle jaw. None of the other does got it. I wormed with Cydectin then Ivermectin alternating every day for several days. I did worm all the goats at that time to be safe. Then a few of the kids got it too later.

Is he drinking water or electrolytes? He may need some of that. You could give it in a syringe also. Just to get it down him.

I hope he'll perk up tonight. Poor little fella.
