Ok this is one of those things that just "felt right". I can't explain it any other way. Saw a local ad for small conifers, Blue Spruce, Balsam, Black Hills spruce Fraser fir and others Could not resist and went to go get some. Well the guy had 300, yes I said 300 little trees and I bought them ALL! We have a field to plant and I am potting a good number. I really do feel like I am planting a "forest".
Any advice for growing little trees? Not something I've done before and I can't explain why I'm doing it now.
Just makes me smile I guess.
Maybe I need to start a "tree farm"!

Wow, 300 baby trees! Good luck getting them planted. I have never grown any quite that small. You can contact online the Morton Arboretum in Lisle or the Chicago Botanical Garden for advice. Deer and rabbits could be a real problem at first too.
Enjoy your miniature forest!

Wow, that's a buncha trees to have to plant! You need some help for sure. How big are they? I know the first year they just need lots of water. And you could start a Christmas tree farm with all those conifers.

The trees are from about 12 to 24 inches tall, and were started in a styrofoam container so have some dirt in with the roots, sa are a bit better than bare root trees. I thought to pot some because it will be easier for me this time of year to keep them watered, they are going into gallon size pots.

Ok all of those little trees are planted though we did figure out that there were NOT 300 trees there are 350 trees. Whew! Now hopefully we don't lose too many and they grow well.
In about 7 years anyone want a Christmas tree??? LOL

| Lucky you, it's not everyone who gets to plant a forest. and when things feel that right -- well, sometimes you just have to go with your instincts. Suzanne |
