Hello, My name is Jenny. I'm originally from Western NY, we own a home in Indiana, but my husband is in the Navy and we have ended up in Kenosha for the next few years! It's really lovely and reminds me alot of the area I'm from In NY. I've always looked for a word to describe my style and what I liked, I think Farmgirl describes it pretty good. I enjoy sewing, antiquing, thrift storing and misc other crafts. My husband is the cook/baker in our family. We have no children (trying) but we have two little dogs, Basil & Brunhilda. I had never seen MJF mag until a few months ago when we started shopping at an organic-ish store called Woodman's here in Kenosha. started flipping through it at the register and finally started buying it. I wanted to blog about the mag and the site so I joined the forum to check it out and maybe make some friends with similar interests. |

Welcome Jenny, I have a dear friend who grew up in Kenosha! Welcome to MJF. There is so much here to share and enjoy. Its great how women from all over this country and others can have so much in common in spite of differences in ages and experiences. Good luck on the baby front. It took us a while to get started but raising our 3 kids was everything I'd hoped it would be. I think having dogs is a good starter step in responsibility and sharing love. Try out the different boards here. I think the barter section could be great fun and there's one on stichery and crafts. Have fun! Susan

Thanks everyone! gosh this is the friendliest forum I've ever been on before! LOL. Woolgirl, yes he is at Great Lakes! He's on the staff/A-school side. We've only been here since Jan, but we did live in Great Lakes a few years ago for about 8 months. lol. It is neat to meet people close to you with the same interests! |

We'll have to meet up sometime! I have been meaning to get up to Kenosha. We have been doing stuff around here and downtown, but I've heard it is nice up there is. We will be here for the next 3 years (hopefully, you know how that goes!) so we have lots of time to plan something. Oh! I've heard there is a decent farmers market up there. Have you heard anything about it or been?

Yes I've been, it's more expensive them a lot of the farmer's markets I've been to, but it's a little more upscale too. There are a lot of crafty sellers like jewelers and artists and a lot of gourmet dealers too, cheeses, mushrooms, a guy who sells buffalo meat. It's pretty cool we usually go twice a month. They also have one in a park in Zion (between kenosha and great lakes) that looks decent from the road anyway! |

Maybe I'll have to go check out Zion's. There are lots in the city, but I loathe driving down there most days.

I've read about the ones in the city, but you're right the traffic, paying to park. Or you could rde the train with all the new seamen! We like it up here in Kenosha. We have all the comforts of a city but it feels like a small town. The whole place is very nature oriented, tons of parks, restaurants that lean to more healthy food, concerts in the park, art fairs and farers markets and all sorts of neat things. It's almost an idealistic type place.

My sister was in town last weekend, and I wanted to get her to ride the train downtown, she just wasn't having it! We are from a small town, so we're not accustomed to those kind of things. I got used to it when I was here for my A school (many moons ago) so it's nothing to me. We live on base rigt now, just until we could get to know the area. That and DH is from TX, and has never driven in the snow. Eeeeek! I wanted hom to get used to it and before we moved further out.
Oh and I checked out and love your blog!
