I just finished an apron for my friend who is getting married next week. She likes dark colors and nothing pastel-like or anything, so this is what I came up with. It's a really cute retro style and this old chair does it's shape no justice. She is itty bitty, so think tinier waste and a big ruffly skirt when it's on. The top I quilted, but you can't even really see the details in the close-up picture very well (doesn't really matter since I'm not a quilter anyways, but I thought it came out kinda pretty). Then, the black lace came from a bag of vintage lace that I bought for a dollar today at an estate sale. It's definitely different and not your grandma's apron...LOL!

That is VERY pretty! I love the non-mom colors! Great work.

Siobhan, This Grammy would wear that apron in a heart beat! But then I'm not your typical Grammy! It's beautiful - love everything about it - good job on the bargan lace too - it really adds to it! Hugs, Ruth

I love the apron. I only wear the frilly ones. If your going to wear an apron why not make it fun. Lace, ruffles, its all good. And the husband seems to like it too;)

I love your apron! You have done a fabulous job. Did you use a pattern? I just loved the ruffles, Barbara

Thanks everyone!!! Marian, sexy was what I was going for. I'm glad you thought that. She and her fiancee are only 20 years old and very trendy and fashion-forward. She's the kind that weighs about two pounds and wears skinny jeans to show off her legs that go up to her neck, so I thought this short, frilly skirt would look super cute on her. And the black lace, well, that makes it super sexy, which will be great for her to be wearing while making dinner when her hubby comes home :) Hehehe....I'm thinking about adding in a pair of black lace panties in case she ever wants to cook dinner in just the apron LOL! My hubby and I were joking about that with them when we took them out to dinner a couple weeks ago (my husband did their marriage counseling and we took them out to eat to share wisdom as a couple). I was asking her what colors she wanted and if she liked ruffles. He said he wanted ruffles and asked if there was such thing as see-through aprons LOL!!!! They are cute. Both of their fathers are pastors who are still married to their mothers and have great relationships, so they are going to do well. I was excited to get to make an apron for her. I do hope she likes it.
Oh...and someone asked if this was from a pattern and the answer is yes, but I took a few of my own liberties and mixed pieces from two different options in the pattern. The pattern is a remake of two vintage apron styles by Simplicity. It's Pattern #2592.

Siobhan, what a beautiful job! I love it! I was at a vintage clothing shop the other day and found a whole bunch of vintage aprons that were see-through! Apparently they are hostess aprons that you wear over your fancy dress when having a dinner party! Who knew?

Yes, Diane. I found two of those at the Salvation Army a couple months ago. I have them in my apron drawer and they're so cute, but I haven't had a nice dinner to host yet AND I'm not quite sure how to get the wrinkles out of them as they are made of a very fine netting type of material that I'm sure would melt under an iron. Any ideas?

Siobhan, Is the thin fabric Organza? Kris and Kelly had aprons like that when we all got together before we met MaryJane. I think Kris ironed hers. I remember my Mom wearing them, and I know she washed it in the machine and hung it out to dry (because at the time we didn't have a dryer ) The fabric would be old now, so not sure if I'd wash it in the machine. Maybe just "puddle" it out in a sink and hang it to dry. Iron with a cool iron.

Yeah, maybe I'll try washing and hanging. That might work. Good idea Ruth!
