My one year old chickens are naked on their backs. They have feathers on their wings and and tummies. I thought they were going thru molt, but its been going on now since June. I got rid of my Roo, who was taking his claws into their backs, I also changed things up a bit by adding baby chicks in their pen and also added, slowly, a new type of food, but very good stuff.

A friend suggested mites, I havent seen anything on them. A guy at the pultry place said molt.

What do my experts say?

Kim, try adding some apple cider vinegar to their drinking water. Also you might want to get some diotemacious earth and sprinkle around their nest boxes and the ground. You can also put that ON the hens. Do they have dirt where they can take dust baths? How old are they? And are they still laying?

I will try the ACV. I have learned that they are naked as they are molting. I was concerend that maybe I should start knitting sweaters as it got down to the 40's the last few nights, but my neighbor says they will start gettign feathers once the cold starts coming in more. Sure enough, I looked, they have peach fuzz on their backs.

To answer your questiosn, I am only getting 2-6 eggs per day, more on the 2 side, which sucks as my customers are asking for them and I cant deliver.
