i live in a very old house trailer and to hide a nasty pole that holds up my (windoww )a/c unit and keep my dogs from knocking it down ; i rigged trellis from two (upright) futon pieces and a porch railing and planted morning glories- red ones hoping to attract hummers....well- i finally (!)( now that the nites are in the 30's) have a very few blooms...noticed the other day that one tendril has worked it's way INSIDE my trailer thru the gap in the window!!! it's so pretty i hate to move it-but will- anyhow--this morning it has one delicate bloom!!!! how refreshing!!!!
just had to share........

margo, there you go the bloom where you are planted thought. morning glories are pretty. i have a friend that has a lavendar that is growing in a small crack in her walk. amazing the need to grow God put in things. then we try to do it on purpose and have problems. yes we are getting cold too. so next year you can do it again. hoping for more blooms before its too cold. happy days sherrye

Ahhh... Some people love morning glory. They are one of the most horrid, invasive, obnoxious plants I have ever dealt with. They grow roots, seemingly, miles long. Grow through the cracks in the walls, through the foundation, under the house, IN the garage. I have been fighting them ever since we moved in here over 10 years ago. Unfortunately, I think they are going to keep on winning. Granted... ours are the simple white variety. Maybe I would be a little more patient if they had some extra beautiful and colorful appeal.

I love Morning Glories. They are so beautiful. I hope you get to enjoy yours for a little while longer before the frost gets it.

I love morning glories, too. My friend gave me some dry vines with pods on them a few years ago to run along my side fence. She said to just lay them there and they'd take. It took a couple of years, but they finally came in - so prettily striped in purpley-pink and white! The only trouble is, we have a very small yard and this year some "wild" white morning glories managed to get into my vegetable garden. At first I thought they were bean plants (leaves looked so much like my beans, and they were growing where I had planted bean seeds), but the cone-shaped trellises we set up suddenly turned into white morning glory topiaries! The nursery owner told me I'd better pull them up immediately, bag them and pitch them, otherwise they would take over the whole garden and I'd be sorely sorry. He was right. I pulled them up and later in the summer they started showing up in other areas around the yard and garden. The ones my girlfriend gave me aren't doing this - just the white ones. They're very pretty, but I really don't want my entire yard covered in them. The nursery owner said just to keep pulling them up and pitching the vines, being careful that no pods/flowers fall anywhere. Whatever you do, Angie, don't put them in your compost - he warned if I did that, I'd never be rid of them! :) Good luck! - Nini

hey Margo,
I too love morning glories, especially the blue ones....I dropped some seeds in a flower pot next to one of the balcony pillars and it was a slow start and then about 2 weeks ago they just took off! blooming w/a vengence & I love it...every morning I poke my head out the patio door and admire them....
I also planted Moonflower, which if you have never grown ya gotta,,,they set bloom in the evening and smell like babypowder! ahh!

just wanted to add that today ( 8 days after the original post) there were two beautiful blooms!usually only one per day!!! even tho we had two nites of frost and the vines are withered outside, the "indoor" vine still is sending life and beauty into my living room!!the blooma are a beautiful reddish pink like a bougainvillea!

i understand angies upset i too have so many morning glories
its like they are taking over but i love their blooms and i just train
them over trelis lamposts mailbox and fences and whatever and pull the others so they
don't choke off the other planted.. a mixed blessing
