Does anyone know how to get rid of it? It is taking over my yard. It wrapped around my neighbor's big oak tree and it's going to kill it. I have it in the flower beds and really hate to use chemicals but I feel I have no choice. Help!!
Keep smiling - makes them wonder what you're up to! |

You'll have pull all the vines down and dig out the roots if you want it gone. It spreads by runners underground, so you'll have to pull all of those too. You could always find a florist to sell it to. My dad did just that and teh florist would come cut it.
Good luck.

Oh, June! I'm sorry you're having such a tough time with it! I love decorating with bittersweet this time of year, but haven't seen any since moving to PA... I didn't realize it could be such a nuisance! If you'd like to sell some, please let me know - only I can't come up to cut it! 'Wish I could, though - I'm very homesick this time of year, especially! Good luck - Nini

| June, oh please please don't have a florist come get it! They'll only want it when it's fruiting and all those pretty berries sprout and make more trouble! Bittersweet is an invasive and it started because of the innocent wreaths everyone loves (including me!) but the birds eat the berries and spread it all over. It's a nation-wide problem plant! Getting rid of it is truly the best thing you can do. Composting it isn't an option either, the seeds will sprout or the vine will re-root and keep growing, add it to the burn pile! |
