I have a young hen that has gone broody. She is so sweet. I cleaned out the coop yesterday and put in fresh straw as the winds and rain are starting up here in Washington State. Want to keep my girls warm and happy. One of my new gals (this year) just sits in the nesting box. Not so good for gathering eggs as now I have to go on a hunt around their pen every day. I lifted her out and put her down on the floor of their raised coop to clean out the box and put in fresh straw and she immediately started bringing straw to her one by one. I so love when the do that. She's so "dreamy" and sweet right now with her cooing.

There's no rooster here, so she's going broody for nothing. Burlington is Western Washington, Skagit County.

I have two bantam hens whp are always broody. I love to watch them!
The other day I pulled in the drive with my hubs. As soon as I got out of the car I knew there was a problem. I went running to the pen to find my one bantam hen screaming and her only 8 week old chick in the big hens pen [she is a free ranger]. I ran in there and grabed her and she had two holes in her neck from those agressive big hens. I packed it with salve and returned her to her momma! Who was screaming bloody murder. It has been nearly a week and the chick is healing good! Her momma makes it really bad when I touch her!!

God Bless
