Good morning ladies ,my name is Wanda (aka Country Thyme Lady ),and I'm finally able to get in here and say hello ....had sign in issues which are finally all ironed out ...Let's see now to intro myself ...well I'm a 55 year young country gal, married to my "Mr.Wonderful",Earl, who is a truck driver .....between us we have 3 grown children and so far 5 grandchildren ,we live in the very small village of Lakeville and directly across the road from our 100 year old farmhouse is the beautiful Silver Lake;at this time of year the lake is very crowded with the constant incoming flights of our Great Canadian Geese as they make their flight plans for their vacation time down south in the Friendly U.S.A. They are way noisier than any hencoop let me tell you . They are a constant "magnet" to the many photographer bugs who hear they have arrived in great numbers once again. We live on an acre and a half of prime growing soil and we have a large vegetable plot ...where this year there seemed to be a battle for largest crop between the Garlic and the Butternut Squash .... and by the way have any of you ever tried the Butternut Squash Lasagna recipe in the latest edition of Mother Earth News ? YUM !!! It is soo good !! As well as veggies we have a few flower gardens as well which I am always expanding on or "inventing" In the spring I'd like to make a good sized Round Herb bed in the front yard area ....hubby will likely shake his head and grin cos he knows I'll always find room for another garden ....but it still leaves plenty of lawns to mow ....most all of this yard work falls to me as he is on the road so much ....I do have a few health issues that I have to remember I have so that I don't completely overdo it ,but, at my most recent check up my doctor informed me that as far as he was concerned the snowfall couldn't arrive fast enough as I had overdone it in his estimation .... oh well I'm enjoying my life so much and just can't find enough hours in everyday to do all the things I'd like to ....Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is my biggest enemy and the hardest to deal with ...but enough of that boring stuff ....I love to read ,just finished EllyAnne Geisel's "The Apron Book : Making,Wearing , and Sharing a bit of Cloth & Comfort " Luved it ,and,by the way I wear my aprons everyday ....think I'd probably be a mess from head to toe if I didn't ....already started into my next book ,by the Knitting Harlot ....it's too cute !! I love to sew ,knit, crochet ,craft and learn new skills ....I'm not sure if I can do it but I'll try to insert a photo of what I do ...if I can't go to PhotoBucket and the user name is Crafterbug with the passwd Angelbug ....I have many more photos to upload ....when I have the time ...right now I'm also trying to find some time to work on a Friendship Shawl (knitted ) which I've done an amazing amount of unravelling on ...but I keep on trying ....hubby says that if every "mistake" is a lesson learned than I surely have learned Patience......with this project at the very least ....lol !!! Well gosh I guess I must have rambled on long enough for this first chat ....hope to get to know ya'll and join in on some of the fun activities you're all so involved in ....where to read first ...??!!LOL !!!

Welcome, welcome, Wanda; you're going to love it here. I'm determined to spend more time here this year. We can only get dinosaur-dial-up where we live so sometimes being on line can be a real exercise in patience. What an adorable snowman! I'm a 57 year young country girl married 35 years to my DH, Bob and we also have 3 wonderful adult children, Becky, Debby and David, 2 sweet grandaughters, Ruth (8) and Ellie (5), (daughter Debby's girls.) We live on the same property I grew up on though a few years ago we were able to sell off 5 acres and the house I grew up in. We've just finished building our dream house but I can look down the hill at the old farm house. Our soil isn't so prime, it's red clay but Bob has been working to change that and our garden was really great this year, tomatoes, onions, potatoes, carrots, radish, kohlrabi, zucchini, acorn squash and green beans. I want to plant butternut next year and more herbs and beets and, and.... ;-) We plant in raised beds and we have to fence it all in to keep the deer out but we transplanted my rosemary to the front yard because the deer won't touch it, planted lavender there too for the same reason and there's not much that they won't eat if they get the chance. Oh, well, I love watching them and we have elk that hang out on the hill just above the house and coyotes, fox, bobcat, black bear and the occasional cougar. I've never seen the cougar or the bears, which is fine with me, but I have seen their sign. I have the Apron Book too, LOVE IT, love aprons and old tablecloths. I have a small but growing collection, I collect milk glass and tea cups too. I love to read and paint and I'm teaching myself to hand embroider and crochet. I love your spunky attitude; CFS is awful, I have a couple friends who suffer from it so I will send you all the healing energy I can. I have osteoarthritis but I'm determined to stay active and not let it get the best of me or keep me from enjoying every moment of life. I'm going to have to get my atlas out now and find out where you live.

Hi Wanda, My husband is a truck driver too, finally pretty local, just in Washington now. Before he took this job I rode around with him for 5 months..24/7 if that doesn't get you divorced you are probably paired up for life! LOL! We did a lot of Canada and it sure is pretty there. If I couldn't live in the USA I would want to be in Canada. You are just a couple of years older than me, I would like to stay at home and "farm", right now we are working on finding a piece of property, and like you, I will have to do most of it myself. Tractors are sexy right? LOL Thanks for joining up!! Ann

A big Wisconsin hay dare to ya Wanda! We are so glad you joined us. Your place sounds beautiful! I too struggle with Rheumatoid Arthritis so I know how you feel. It is easy to overdo it sometimes. There are a lot of friendly, talented and helpful farmgirls here for you.

Welcome Wanda, This is a wonderful place to spend time with some great Farmgirls! We visited NovaScotia, and Loved it, everything about it! We came right after 9/11 and had the best reception anyone could ask for. We stayed in B&Bs everywhere we went and were welcomed with open arms. I would love to come back and stay longer next time. Did you make the snowman? He is sooo cute! Look forward to seeing you around the "farm"! Jump right in! Hugs, Ruth

Welcome from MN. I love the energy and enthusiasm in your post. You seem to be a really good fit here.
I'm 61 years, both DH and I are retired. We have a huge garden, mostly vegetables, berries and fruit. Herbs and flowers are mostly kind of slap dash but I've finally found some roses that are tough enough for me! We finally got the garlic figured out and then DH found a source for tons of varieties so we're trying a few of 8 kinds this year. We've got 3 grown kids, no grandkids but our oldest and her guy were married this past summer and are making plans. I like sewing, crafting, reading and am also one who likes to learn new things, learning to use a wood lathe a couple of years ago and signed up for weaving classes the beginning of January.
Its good to have you here. Susan

Hi, again, Wanda; just checking in and hoping all is well with you, you've been in my thoughts and prayers all week since we haven't heard from you. I don't have a very good atlas so I couldn't find your little community on the map. I'll bet it's a lovely place even though I can almost feel that cold wind off the great Atlantic ocean. We have a cold front moving in today from the Gulf of Alaska but here in Roseburg, Oregon we don't get really extreme weather, which me aging artheritic bones are happy about. Sending you blessings today!
