Hello All,
Last week, I signed up to join the farmgirl sisterhood. I'm excited!
To introduce myself...
I live on the Maine coast with my husband and two cats. I love crafting and cooking. I am also a professional woodworker and wooden boatbuilder who now works as an editor for a Maine-based magazine.

I have been a knitter since age 6. I love knitting. I also love cooking and baking. This year, for the first time since childhood, I planted a garden. We're still enjoying carrots and parsnips from our little patch in the backyard.

One of my New Year's resolutions is to learn to use a sewing machine. A good friend gave me his machine shortly before he passed away.

I just received an apron pattern that I ordered from MaryJanes Farm. I can't wait to get started!

Oh, and,
I am originally from Illinois. I have spent more of my life there than here or anywhere else I have lived. I still visit northern and central Illinois as often as I can (I live oceanside but I miss the prairie)! I especially love to visit in July when the corn is still nice and green but is getting really tall (my husband calls it, "getting my corn fix.")

Like some of you, I too live in a remote area and so have very few friends close to home. I'm looking forward to getting to know many of you and to all the wonderful sharing and learning that goes on here.
Warmly,
Karen

Lifes not about the breaths you take, but the moments that take your breath away.

Just a small town country girl, farmgirl, loggergirl, trying to live her dreams. :)

P.s. I've been playing around with the spelling of my name ( weird I know) and I've decided that I will stick with Hannah for good. Sorry I got you all confused. Hugs!!

A big Wisconsin hay dare to ya Karen! We are so glad you joined us. There are many helpful, friendly and talented farmgirls here for you! Good luck with the apron and if you get into a snag just post about it. You will get answers and maybe a little humor from all over the country and beyond.

Happy to be a "Raggedy Ann" in a Barbie World!

I get up every morning determined to both change the world and have one hell of a good time. Sometimes this makes planning my day difficult.

Hi Karen!

Welcome to the group! I'm sure you will enjoy it here.

I have vacationed in Maine every year since I was a kid and love it there. We usually stay near Wells or Drake Island. I envy you living on the coast!

Thanks everyone for being so welcoming--

Thank you, Diane--I definitely will post when I hit snags with my apron project. Look for me...
By the way, I know Janesville (I grew up in Rockford and went to Beloit College). Janesville is a Great Town!

And Margo, how nice of you to show such interest. In my case, I just always loved making things. In my late 20's I came to Maine (sight-unseen) and went to boatbuilding school. It was sort of ugly as there was little interest in training female boatbuilders at the time (the late 80s) but I stuck with it, went on to furniture making school (which had several women in the class--so fewer issues--and was a really wonderful experience) and went from there. Coupling those skills with a writing background helped me to get some very nice editing jobs.

Thank you all, again, for your kindnesses. I am so grateful,

Karen

Welcome Karen. I lived in Maine for 10 years, Sanford & Springvale area. I miss the outdoors up there. It was so beautiful. My fiance and I have talked about doing a trip up there when financies will allow.

I can imagine you would run into some issues with not only being female but also an "outsider". It drove me nuts that I couldn't get a sentence finished when I met somebody. I'd get stopped and they'd say "You're not a Mainer (or New Englander) are you."

Welcome Karen: A boatbuilder, how interesting, I've done some woodcrafts but nothing big, used to do shows for my friends that made Shaker style furniture, they did fastastic work. I use to do a lot of sewing but have not even opened my machines up for quite a while. I have 4 electric and a tredle.Im looking forward to getting back to it but right now my top priority is to get my house straightened back up. I had been out of it for a year and just got back last month, and it is really great to be home in among my own things.LOL

Have you had snow there yet? We haven't here but it is already too cold to suit my fancy. Take care, so glad you are here. Lola

Every day, in every way, I become better and better.
