Hello!
I stumbled upon MJB's magazine and website from a mailer. I was so excited to see that there were other women in my area like me. I'm truly a farmgirl at heart, but I'm definitely a beginner. I signed up to be on the forum over the weekend, so I had to wait to hear from Brian ALL.WEEKEND.LONG. Let me tell you, it was a long wait.
But here I am! *jazz hands* *curtsy*
I am 35 years old. Mother to four kids. (15 boy, 14 girl, 6 girl, and 6 girl) I homeschool my daughters. I'm married to a police officer. I love zebra finches, and have three. My oldest daughter has 3 gerbils. My husband has a rottweiler who will lick you to death. My son has 4 fish. I want to raise angora rabbits for wool and cuddles. I also want to get a red footed tortoise. I want to have my two allotted chickens that Garland will allow me to own. I want to start a garden.
So that's a little bit about my family and me. Do you have any questions? *see? there's the teacher in me*
I can't wait to meet everyone. I hope there are some farmgirls in my area.
Hugs, Kara |

Welcome Neighbor! I live in Leonard, TX - just up the road from you. I really hope to arrange a get-together sometime this spring. I look forward to getting to know all the Farmgirls in this area.

Welcome Kara! You will have a great time here. Lots of fun projects, discussions and all around goodness going on all the time! Check out the Backyard Buddies and Garden Gate forums for farmgirl sisters who also love animals and gardening.
I spent two weeks in Garland about 22 years ago! I was in town for an irrigation design class at Weathermatic Headquarters on Kingsley Road. They had a car they loaned me since I was the only person from out of the area and had no transportation but I could only go so far in any direction. So I did lots of exploring in Garland. It was fun for me and so different to have everything more or less flat and the roads were all parallel to each other like a grid. I had never seen anything like that before! Up here in Seattle area the roads all curve and go every which direction. But....you can see landmarks to keep yourself oriented in the right direction. A couple times I got really lost in Garland because there were no mountains to give me a sense of direction! I bought my first pair of Cowboy boots in Texas at the Justin factory. After the battery on the car went dead one Saturday and I had to walk about two miles to a station and pay them to make a service call, I decided it would be okay for me to drive about two miles past the boundary line to visit Justin's store. I got my snazzy new boots and nobody ever knew! They did pay me back for the new battery eventually. Brings back some great memories!
Cheers! ~ Marilyn

Welcome, Kara, from one of the Louisiana farm girls! I, too, want Angora rabbits for spinning, but first -- I have to learn to spin! So glad you could join us.

| Hi Kara! I grew up in the North Dallas, Plano, Garland area! However, I've been in Vermont for a decade now. But I'll always have my Texan roots! |

Hi Kara You will love it here. I just found the site this summer after getting a MJF magazine in the spring. I have loved being involved with some of the swaps and meeting new ladies on here all the time. I live in Texas too, I work in San Angelo, but live about 25 miles south in Christoval. I am 50, married and have grown daughters, ages 28 & 22. We live on 5 acres with 3 dogs, 2 horses, and some cats. I had a garden this summer and loved it so much I can't wait to do it again. I work in the developmental disability field as a Community Relations Mgr with Mosaic. We have an office in Carrollton and I go there about every 3 months or so for meetings. Glad to have you on board! Terri

Hello, Kara -
I live close to you, also. I have two Texas houses - one in Richardson and one in Lone Oak (south of Greenville). My DIL home-schools her 11 YO son (they are in Lone Oak, too). I am interested in all crafts fiber related - sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, and I am learning to spin fibers into yarn and venturing into dying wool and alpaca fleece. I am ready to become more involved with MJFG.

I'm so glad to meet Farmgirls close to me, AND far away. :)
Linda - Do you meet up with any other FG's? I found a chapter here in Garland, but the person who started it never really got it off the ground. I don't know where to do go from here.
On the plus side, I received 'MaryJane's Stiching Room' today. I'm about to crack it open. I had to force myself to finish grading papers and homeschool before I opened the package. Such discipline. |

Hey Kara, my mom used to keep Zebra finches, they were highly entertaining! I'm actually newer than you, but welcome anyway, and nice to meet you.
