I made my first batch the other day. The soap came out great, but the mold I chose...bad idea! I had to remelt it and rebatch it and it turned out great. I used a goat's milk base and added beeswax, honey, sweet almond oil and lavender EO.
Now I have 2 books coming from Amazon (used...one was 30 cents!) and can't wait to get better recipes/techniques. I also took a cookie cutter and cut out a really cute snowflake. I'll never buy 'soap' again!

| Amanda, good for you. Glad it came out ok. This is on my list of things I want to do this year - would make great "girlie" gifts for birthdays and Christmas. What books did you order? Did you get regular molds from Hobby Lobby/Michaels? Have you checked out DIY's "Simply Beautiful" - there were some spots where she's made soaps. Really interesting. |

Hi Annie,
I know one book was Soapylove, and the other was Melt and Pour Soapmaking by Marie Browning. Both got good reviews. I don't have any regular molds yet. right now I am using plastic trays; one was for sausages and one was for a frozen dinner. Of course I scrubbed and disinfected them before using. My friend is going to place an order to Brambleberry in a few weeks, so I am getting the sampler kit and I will be looking for molds in the meantime.
Last night, I made my girls some bars. I did 1/2 pink and 1/2 blue bars. They turned out really cool! :0)

| Thanks Amanda for the info. Will check and see if our library have them and if not, here I come Amazon.com - AGAIN. I love it when you can get used books there for next to nothing sometimes - even if they are a little used. |

I know! I got one of the books for 30 cents and the other was 1.81, lol. Of course, there was shipping, too, but it was 10 bucks for 2 good books. I consider that a steal. I try to buy all used books now. :0)

Isn't Brambleberry a fun site! My 10 year old loves to watch the videos and of course we had to make melt & pour toy soaps for Christmas presents! Save your Joannes & Michael's 50% off coupons, they carry glycerine and olive oil bases.

Hi,
I make my own olive oil soap but loved doing the melt and pour. Have done it for years. There are so many kinds out there. Oatmeal ground up makes a wonderful creamy additive to any soap and is great for the skin.

is the 'Melt & Pour" soap a glycerine type of soap? or????
I am looking for some sweet scented soaps that don't cost (my) arm & a leg to make and I luv the idea of using molds or cookie cutters...how cute!
Plus I like the idea of no food coloring..and that a few drops of EO plus maybe a sprinkle of lavender or crushed rose petals can dress the soap up w/o being a mess.
