Hi. I'm Susie and I live on a "hobby" farm in So/Central Missouri. I am the wife of a soon-to-retire United States Marine. We have lived all over the country, including Hawaii. We found our "paradise" here on our farm in this rural area. I have three "young adult" children-Aimee, almost 19, Ciara, 16 and graduating high school this year, and Garrett, 13. We have and ride horses for our pleasure. My girls both ride ex-racehorses. I have an older Appaloosa gelding. My men share a short, fat mare! We also have dairy goats, laying hens, a few cattle for grass-fed beef, and a Jersey cow that we do not milk. We also have 5 dogs and 8 cats. Each summer we raise and process pasture poultry (mainly chickens and some turkey). We had a small flock of sheep but took a break from that. I'm a convert...I was raised near the ocean in CA, a Marine daughter. The Lord led me to learn more about food and how it is produced and what it does or doesn't do for us. He eventually led us here to our farm and a desire to provide for ourselves. We homeschool our children and have for 10 years now. It has been a blessing not having to worry about schools with all of our 12 moves over the last 20 years. It has also been a blessing during deployments (both leaving and reunions) and moves and life on the farm. I enjoy the tradional/whole foods movement, meal planning, making bread, cheese, and soap. I LOVE dark chocolate! I'm a clutter queen! I can knit dish cloths but that's about it. I can sew and used to be very crafty until homeschooling took over my life. :o/ I make everything from scratch and always have! My children and I are very close and do most everything together. Okay-we do everything together! They have been just as excited about this adventure as I have. I have very few friends-my best is a Chaplain's wife who lived a few doors down from us in 2001-2002. We have not lived near each other since and only visited one another a few times but we talk on the once a week. I would love to meet some caring friends who share similar interests. I love the way MJF makes me feel when I read it. I have a lot of experience and similarities with many of those who submit to her magazine. Most of the time publications only interest me if I have something to learn or gain, but I keep coming back to MJF because of the feeling of kinship extends. I guess that's about it. I look forward to browsing the forum. Susie in MO

Hey there Susie. Welcome, I also lived in MO for awhile. My DH was in the army but got out. Are you at FLW? Where do you live? I absolutley love it in MO. I hope to move back one day and stay forever. It is the most beautiful place to live. The scenery and the water is so clear. And there is always something to do or something going on. Welcome once again. Look forward to gettingto know you.

I am ready for the warm weather. Bring it on. I am so tired of bein cooped up in the house!!!!

Thanks for the warm welcome! I just sold our cow! We are due for a big winter storm and I spent more time than I anticipated waiting in line at the commissary...When I got done I had a call from a man who was almost to the farm! So we high-tailed it home, donned our muck boots and heavy coats and wrangled the cow in the rain and mud! Thankfully, she has turned into a nice lady and though she threatened to take me mud skiing as I lead her to his trailer, she didn't. She even loaded very nicely. Praise the Lord that He gave us this opportunity. We needed it.

I look forward to having more time to get to know and dialog with everyone! Now-off to basketball practice and a Mocha to warm me back up!

Hi Susie!

I'm Holly from South Arkansas, but we definitly sound like kindred spirits. I don't have the experience or foundation you do yet, but I'm working on it. It's so nice to finally connect with people who think like I do about things. My co-workers think I'm a bit strange when I talk about my hobbies and interests. The more back to basics I can get, the happier I am! I'm thankful the Lord has led to the fulfillment of your dreams and I wish you and your family a happy retirement and deep roots on your little piece of paradise!

We are located in So. Central, Missouri near Fort Leornard Wood. My husband has worked there since 2005. We are snowed IN today! It's a winter wonderland and chores are a little bit of a challenge but so bright and clean and beautiful right now.

Hi Susie, I am also new to MJF (1/30/11). I saw my first copy ofthe magazine in the quilt shop I frequent and finally broke down and treated myself and bought it. It reminded me of my Aunt Maggie who was a true farm girl no matter where she lived. I loved it and came to the website. Having a little trouble understanding and navigating the site at the moment. I live in central Missouri. I am enjoying all the posts but am feeling very "young" in my lack of know how everyone else seems to have . I am looking forward to learning alot.

All joking aside this is a wonderful bunch of ladies and I've enjoyed being here. I got a surprise this last week in the form of am e-mail from Kathy Jane, we got to talk on the landline this week and I sure did enjoy visiting with her, hopefully soon we'll get to meet face to face.

My sister doesn't live too far from you, she lives a Richland, I get to go over there ever little bit.

Again WELCOME glad you're here.

Lola
