Hi all!

Am soooo happy to have found this site when I was searching around the internet for anything related to "farmgirl". Wow, you're all HERE!!

Introduction: I am a farmgirl from rural New Hampshire. I keep a 1-acre organic garden every summer and have a little flock of hens that I simply ADORE! I sew, and my absolute favorite sewing machines are the small vintage Singer Featherweights which I collect and also use. When I'm stitching a quilt, I always set up at least two of these machines and move back and forth. I also enjoy knitting and crocheting, painting and writing. I am married with one child. I look forward to meeting other farmgirls and reading all the posts!

Barbara :)

Hi Nicole,

Thanks for the welcome!

I'm originally from Rhode Island. My did still lives there, so in that sense, we are neighbors.

Welcome Barbara! I recently joined as well and I just love it here. I also just joined the Sisterhood and can't wait to receive something. Now I just need to figure out which badge to go for first. So glad that you found your way here.

Hi Holly,

Thanks! Yes, glad you made your way here as well!

First I was going to subscribe to the MJF magazine, then I found the sisterhood. I could do one or the other but not both, so I decided to join the sisterhool - otherwise I'd just be reading the magazine and without all of you! I can only talk to the cats, hub, and the hens just so long, and it'll be so nice meeting other women and making lasting friendships.

I can barely wait to receive whatever it is you get in the mail! I've looked over the badges, and since it's winter, I think I'll start with sewing. Gardening can wait until Spring.

I LOVE the idea of the badges! As it is, I still live my life as though I were still a little girl and working on badges for this and that in girlscouts, so this is just great - and finally something fun and rewarding for adult women who, after the kids and the BFs and husbands and pets, oftentimes get lost in the shuffle.

So anyway, a big welcome to you, also!!! :)

Howdy back at ya, Vermont neighbor!

I'm more in the middle of the state, but on a clear day I can see Mt. Ascutney from here, and have been there a few times. You've got some real nice farms over there! And Lake Champlain is GORGEOUS!!!!!

Hi Barbara and welcome. Lucky you to live in such a beautiful state. I joined the Sisterhood too and am anxiously waiting for my package. I think the merit badges are such a fun idea. I love most handwork and crafts, so will probably start the sewing first also. You're going to love it here.

Hi Grace,

Thanks for the nice welcome! I've been here maybe a week or so, and you are absolutely correct - I LOVE it here! Such a nice group of farmgirls!! It's pretty rural where I live, and a girl can only talk with her cats and her hens and the trees just so long before she starts looking cross-eyed. Nothing like a nice group of women friends to chat with. I am sooooooo happy I found this site! I found it when I was starting my little farmgirl blog a few weeks ago, and color me happy!! Since I joined, I learned I am losing my much-loved Annabelle and have devoted the last few posts of my blog to her :.[

Hugs,
Barbara

Hi Karin,

Thank you for the warm welcome!

Yes, the merit badges!! Ever since I was a little girl, first a Brownie and then a Girl Scout, I tend quite naturally to live my life as though working on badges - sewing, quilting, writing, painting, gardening, stained glass, shingle designs and woodworking, and on and on. Silly, I know, yet isn't it funny and kind of nice how, all through your life, you tend to continue to do what you learned and knew as a young girl.

Love the spelling of your name - very Nordic! Are you of Scandinavian descent?

Welcome from another newbie in Maryland. My goodies from the Sisterhood came last week - you will love them!!!!!I learned to sew on my Mom's Singer Featherweight. It's one of my most treasured possessions now. Such happy memories. I'm probably going to start with the sewing badges as well, but I am also looking at the one for keeping bees, as we are putting in our first hives in May!
