I've been culling the roosters from my flock,I had three Dominique roosters and last week, despite having lived together the past year,I found one of my Daughter's ducks dead with severe lacerations on it's head and body,I went looking for the other one and found it with a bloody head inside our coop. The ducks were fine and happy the night before,I wasn't sure what had happened then I watched as one of the roosters pounced on the remaining duck, ripping into it's head with it's beak and scratching it's back with his spurs and the other rooster close by had blood all over it's feet and legs so I grabbed up the two roosters that were the aggressors and dressed them out for the table. I had one remaining rooster that didn't show signs of aggression so I left him and the duck seemed to start healing then the other day I walked in and his head was all tore up again and the rooster was bloody. Now I have the rooster in a cage, trying to decide if I should dress him out too,it's Francois,my favorite so I'm not sure what I should do with him just yet. The duck is doing better,I cleaned and dressed his head up with slippery elm and today I took it off,the wound is so deep that he has a huge hole and you can see his skull but the flesh around it seems to be healing very rapidly. I just wanted to warn you all about this is you have a mixed flock, these ducks and roosters have lived together for over a year and then suddenly the violence erupted seemingly overnight!

I am so sorry about your ducks, those mean roosters. I have limited roo experience but do have a new roo who took off chasing one of the dogs a few days ago. This roo is very protective of the hens, I cannot get eggs from underneath them if he is near. I don't know if gradually introducing him back into the coop would help, but if he is a favorite, I would try that first. Good luck, Carol
