I hope this finds you all well, and not suffering too much from the heat. I will be SO happy to see Autumn arrive.

It has been a terribly hot, dry Summer here and watering has taken up much of our time. I wish you all could see my pumpkin patch!

I will do my best to get more pictures to you as soon as we harvest. The vines are so huge that it is hard to see the pumpkins under them. So many beautiful colors...orange, red, green, yellow, black, white...all sizes, all shapes!

I am working on the Autumn issue of The Rose Cottage Gazette as I have time. I plan to have it out by mid September - I hope you will be pleased with the amount of "stuff" in this issue!

Also, I am announcing the "Limited Editions" of my Autumn and Winter soaps. For Autumn: Pumpkin Pie, Spicy Apples & Peaches, Witch's Brew and For Winter: Winter Wonderland, Spiced Plum Pudding, Frankincense & Myrrh, Mistletoe Kisses and Christmas in Paris. There will be announcements and descriptions of the scents of these are on the website as they are available. The Witch's Brew is a special soap brought back at the request of my friend Ingrid. Christmas in Paris is especially for my friend Beth in VA. They are both unique and lovely fragrances!

I will also be adding to my permanent line a whole section of soaps made with Lavender and other essential oils. There will be the already wildly popular and best selling French Lavender and Chamomile Lavender with Hempseed Oil. To these I will add: Lavender Patchouli, Lavender Mint and Lavender & Ylang Ylang, Lavender Orange Blossom, Lavender Rose and Lavender Vanilla. These lovely, lively soaps will make up our new Jardin de Lavande (Lavender Garden) section. These will be the same superior soaps you have come to expect with a little something extra in the formulation...Rice Bran and Sunflower oils. I am working on specific sections of soap fragrances to make it easier for you to shop for your favorites in my online shoppe. And maybe see something new you would like to try. They will be available as individual bars and in sets or bundles. These are all coming soon.

I will also be bringing back by customer demand, Wheat Germ Face Bar. Rich and creamy lathering soap with a generous amount of shea and cocoa butters. Again, coming soon.

NEW lip flavors: Red Current and Cranberry Grape! YUMMY! These will be on the website by Sept 1...probably before.

New Gift sets will be up by Sept 1...Holiday sets as well as general gift giving sets. And as always you are welcome to customize sets. There will be gift sets of all sizes and prices. From both parts of the web shoppe...The Farmhouse Kitchen as well as the Soapworks.

New coffees & teas and adding cocoas & coffee creamers, soups & such in The Farmhouse Kitchen. Be sure and check out that part of the site . I will send a note around when the new items are up...anyone want fudge??? Thought so! And a couple more gift items - some very unique, cool things

Back this Autumn will also be THE SOCKS!!! Now if you dont know what in the world I am talking about - just wait - these are VERY special socks...like nothing you have ever seen. And if you bought a pair or two or three last year...there's a new color this year!!! Also dont forget aprons make a great gift as well...for you or someone you love.

Guess that is it for the business part of this. I am happy to report my mom is doing much better. Getting stronger all the time. We will be making our first trip "out" on Tuesday to the dentist. She is excited - even if it is going to the dentist!! And our grandson Sam will be with us from tomorrow thru Wednesday so while we are all very excited and happy to have him stay with us again - my mom is just over the moon! He just brightens her day so much! He's just a precious little man. He loves to run up to me, make a wild face and say "I'M FREAKING OUT,SUZI, I'M FREAKING OUT!!!" He knows it just makes me collapse with laughter!! We really dont know how this game got started but he and I both think it is terribly fun. Yes, he calls me Suzi...not Grandma, Not Grandma Suzi...just plain old Suzi. Which is fine with me.

I've wanted to try making soap for a long time now, but can't find anyone who sells lye cheaply enough. Where do you get yours?

I buy mine from a local chemical company and buy it 200# at a time. It had to prove I had a business etc. From what I understand illegal drugs are made from lye.

Lye is an ingredient in Crystal Meth. Thats why it is impossible to find in stores now. Used to carry it as a drain cleaner. I don't have a business, and want to try it only as a hobby. Can't work it out to be very cheap to make since the lye I've found on Ebay seems a bit expensive and I would be loosing money making my own soap and not saving any. :(

One reason it is so expensive is you have to label it HazMat to ship it. It is caustic and if a box got damaged and it spilled...well no telling what could happen.
