I'm finally getting around to a formal howdy! So delighted to have found my way to the MJF Farmgirl Connection. I've been cruising around on here and having the best time!

We live off grid in a 500 sq.ft hand-hewn cabin in the mountains 60 miles east of Crater Lake Nat'l park in what is called the high desert of Central Oregon. That means we have pine trees and sage brush both ;-}

We have 3 horses, 2 dogs, a garden (that is under a lot of snow just now) and about 10 miles of bad road to get in or out of here, but it's spectacular once you're here.

I cook on a wood cookstove every day. My husband has a solar-powered woodshop and I have a solar-powered sewing loft. I love to sew and garden and am learning to weave wild willow. (say that 3 times fast)

Living in such a remote location, it's a pure pleasure to have internet access and the opportunity to interact with all of you great gals. Do I get cabin fever? Occasionally, but only in the darkest depths of winter. The rest of the time I'm too busy!

Looking forward to lots of Farmgirl adventures with you. Next I'll have to start working on those badges!

Welcome from a Texas Farmgirl. I'm sure you're going to love it here. The Farmgirls are a great group. Sounds like you have a beautiful place. How do you get your Internet access?

Thanks for the warm welcomes! To answer some of your questions...
Karin, We're solar so we have power for computers and such. I get internet from a broadband connection about 13 miles across the valley. In fact it's more reliable than my cell phone up here.
Diana, Thanks for the welcome. I've been through Orofino. A really beautiful area! Looked for property up that way when my son was going to school in Pullman.
Marly, I've never been to Louisiana. Have you lived there a long time? How do you happen to be Bear5?
Winnie, What makes you Red Tractor Girl? A Farmall? I'll post a photo or two here if I can figure out how.
Debbie, Our cabin isn't log but the lumber was all logged onsite and cut with an Alaska Mill. My husband's first cabin was log and burned down in a forest fire in 1992. We're hoping to build a small log guest cabin next year.
Laurie and Karla, I suppose you are gardening in Florida already. Oh my, that is months away for me.
There's more pics on my blog (listed below).
Leslea, I've been through Tn, really beautiful there. Thanks for the welcome!
Susan

Hello everyone and thank you for the warm welcome. I am very pleased to have found this sight and be able to connect with all you wonderful farm girls. I am preparing for a move to the wilderness soon with my daughter her husband and two sons. We have been planning and preparing for this for two years. The money has just arrived and we are finally going to do it. I am thrilled and scared. But I love an adventure and have always thought I was born in the wrong generation. I am always looking off into the hills and thinking of the pioneers and their incredible adventures.I am looking forward to this new adventure. I am learning so much from the internet and the people that share on it. It is wonderful. Life could not be better.

With lots of hugs and smiles, have a great day.

Susan,
Checking out your blog and enjoying it! Thanks for sharing with us! I too am more into solitude?!
Life and health over the last few years has caused me to leave the more rural life and acerage, for an apt in a large suburban area. An adjustment for certain? Yet my 'farmgirl' ways are coming out and I am finding ways to keep a small container garden on the balcony and make more of my own things. Still working on the quieter more reflective days.

Enjoy the forums!

Blessings,
Linda

Lindagwynn, You must be within site of Mt Baker! I love that area. Where will you be moving to start your wilderness adventure? I know what you mean about the pioneers. I've read literally dozens of books about the pioneer experience and I always feel as though I was there.
Why don't you start a new thread under the welcome wagon forum so we can all identify you and welcome you properly? I'm sure so many on here would love to hear about what you are doing!!
Blessings,
Susan

Wowsers, I love your blog. You are doing what I have always dreamed of doing, but then I back away because of the physical strength needed, and the fear, yes fear of emergencies happening being so far out. That is something my mom would have said! I truly admire you, because we are only two years apart in age. I am 62. You are very cool. This from another person who loves solitude and quiet.

Hi Susan,
Welcome to the Connection. I am new myself so I don't know much yet. I have driven through your country once or twice. It's beautiful and the highway we took back to Interstate 5 was filled with more waterfalls than I have ever seen. Amazing country Oregon. I am very interested in off-grid and solar living so I will look forward to every post. Have a great week. Stay warm.

Thanks so much for your kind words gals!
Heidi, I signed up to follow your blog as you start your next adventure I'll be rooting for you!
Jeannie, All I can say is, age is just a state of mind, don't hold back! I may be older and slower, but I keep movin! If you just keep in motion, time can't catch you! Well, some days it DOES catch me and you know what? I let it. I sit down and sew or read a book. It's OK, the chores will still be there when I get up again. Ye haw!
Thanks for the follows Linda and Jennifer! I love the connections I'm making. This is so wonderful.
Blessings,
Have a great week!

Susan I visited your etsy shop and bought one of the birch soap dish trays for my kitchen sink and my scrubbies. Very clever idea and useful. I think of your homestead when I am washing dishes and dreaming about our own.
Thank you

Hi Susan and welcome!! I'm so happy you found us! I too live off the grid in Colo. I also really enjoyed your Blog and videos, especially the "Rangy Coot"! Wow! He is one industrious species! Can you look into a breeding program and send one my way?? Ha! I'm lucky to have a Hubby that's a great "fixer", "doer" too! Anyhoo, I subscribed to your Blog, so I look forward to your continued adventures!
Big hugs, Lu
