I guess I just don't have mothering out of my system yet. My kids are grown and gone The Lord has set it on my heart that I should adopt a child from El Salvador, Nicaragua..... I am 62 and can't seem to find much info on older adoptions.
I don't want a baby, but maybe a 5 or 6 year old orphan.
Any advice or suggestions. Michele

Michele, what a wonderful gift to a child. Unfortunately, I don't know of any places that specialize in older adoptions. Have you considered fostering?

Lutheran Social Services,
If it's not illegal, unsafe, or immoral, why not try anything once? Who knows? You may come back for a second helping! |

There are many private agencies out there that do foreign adoptions. In my office, the partner I work for does adoptions specifically, and one of our clients adopts babies from Peru--they love the Peruvian/Andes culture and travelled there frequently on mission trips and felt that they wanted to give these children a new opportunity.
There are many ways to go about it: here is a list called the Michigan Adoption Resource Exchange that lists all agencies licensed to do foreign adoptions in the state. Our client's agency was from 4 hours south, so you do not necessarily need to find an agency nearby, but rather one that you click with.

Best of luck--I am happy to learn that you are looking for an older child--there are many, many of them out there that just want someone to love them and give love in return.

there are hundreds of kids in the USA that need homes, please think about adopting them, remember "charity begins at home"

Tina it's very unlikely they will let her at her age adopt in America....just a thought. Much of my family has done both American/Foreign adoption. America is much more picky about race/age, etc of the adopting parents.
My cousin right now is working for a agency, I don't remember if that is the area she is working with or not though, I know for sure she has been working with Malaysia though. You can friend her on facebook, her name is Christi Brotherton she can tell you more about it. She herself has 6 adopted children, 4 American adoptions, and 2 Russian. She got bamboozled quite a bit with the Russian adoptions, and has been working with these organizations that ensure good relations with the adoption (not being taken for all you are worth!).
