I was looking at Nancy Jo's wonderful bag.
was wondering what type of purse you farm girls carry
do you carry an expensive leather one
or a home made one???
Mine is leather; but it is so heavy.
I think due to the hard wear on it.
it had the heaviest sliver looking tag with the logo name of it by the makers of the bag
I took it off.
too heavy with it ; even when it was empty
I have R arthitis right bad now.
so I am thinking on making some
I can sew , knit and crochet .
Actually have one already cut out ; just need to sew it up.
don't know why I keep putting it off
I have some really cute bag patterns I have been collecting.
most are sew from material. hugs sheila

A large purse, with pockets. Not fussed about materials or looks, as long as it holds my stuff! What gets me is how Ric manages to find bags for me that are both practical and cute. My current one was a present to go with the iPad; holds my equipment, wallet, keys, pen, makeup, "girl stuff", gum, and lunch--and looks like it came from a French cottage. Go figure!

A hook, a book, and a good cup of coffee....

I carry a small-medium size black leather backpack always, it holds everything I need and then some.

I carry a little brown purse that will hang on the back of my truck seat right over my canteen. The only reason I carry one is that I have somewhere to keep my drivers license thats not too small to get lost, and for my pocketbook when I go to town which is not very often. It has been a long time since I have been anywhere without a horse trailer behind me, so I guess my purse is my horse trailer. I used to carry a large purse when my kids were young. It was pretty much a catchall for the whole family then. A heavy purse will make a sore shoulder after a while.

I'm a little fussy about purses. I like ones that have a light colored lining (makes things easier to find). Must have a zipper and zippered pockets, no buttons or snaps for me! I usually stick to Saks because I'm in love with the style.

As small as possible and hold my checkbook and have little pockets for cards and a couple zipper pockets. I like the microfiber fabrics . . . lightweight as possible too and in neutral colors.

I have my big one, gray canvas with a bible carrier that snaps on the back, and my little one, a hip pack, for quick runs to the store. I also carry the hip pack when I walk anywhere.

Neither one of mine are very pretty, one gray and one black, but they are perfect for their job. That's all that matters to me.

My purse of preference has to stand alone.....in other words when I put it down, I do not want it to fall over and spill.
It also has to have a big open area, but not one that becomes a big grab bag.
I like an outside pocket for the cell phone.
I like to be sitting at a stop light and be able to reach in and immediately find what I need without looking.
I like it to be soft so it does not scratch my arm while I carry it.
The strap cannot be too long, as I do not want it to bump against my hip when I walk.
Gee, I am really fussy, aren't I?

I have two large purses (both bought from the hospital gift shop on sale) but I'm probably going to take them to Goodwill because they're just too darn big. Things get lost inside them. But I like the colors (one is orange and one is hot pink). I have some small purses for different seasons of the year. They're all pretty old, well-used. I try to carry a minimum of stuff but you know how that goes...the one thing I won't do is buy a designer purse. I have one that I embroidered my own design on--that's as designer as I get! This is a great topic.

I have a St. John's Bay Jordan Crossbody purse. It has a zippered pocket for the cellphone, another front pocket, back zipper area so I don't have to carry a wallet, divided compartments inside. Got it at JcPenney's.

I prefer a purse that has at least two zippers across the top. Also 2-3 zippered pockets on the outside. My purse weighs a ton {laughing} I like to be prepared for anything, so carry alot of stuff in my purse.

Sometimes it's no purse at all! but just a wallet in my back pocket.

Otherwise it's mostly something with zippers and lots of organization.

I am a huge fan o the 31 Purses, but hardly any of their bags that have any size to them have any zippers. Nearly had a disaster when a bag flipped over in the car.

I have a great purse. It can be worn cross-body or belted so that I don't even feel it. I got it through QVC. It has a flap with a zipper and an outside pocket for cell phone, etc. Perfect size. So easy on my back and shoulders.

so many different ones and reasons for them.
I am enjoying reading about them.
sometimes, I think those big pocket books are just to big .
and the tote bags. they are trying to sale are just to high.
It is good that I can sew them if I want them.
I have seen so many pretty ones that we make here and on line .
and you can make them for little
like you can have a whole closet full of different ones for the prices the shopping networks are trying to sell
even the per quilted ones.
yes, they are pretty ; but the money,
one friend said that was the problem with expenisve purses
by the time you buy them ; you don't have money left enough to put in them. lol hugs sheila

Hate purses but they are a necessary evil. It seems to me that no matter how big or small my purse is, I can never find anything in it

Ok, in my 'former life'(before I retired) I was a shoes & handbag addict! I lived for shoes & purses... they were to me what Diamonds are to Marilyn Monroe (Diamonds are a girls best friend).....

My all time favorite line of handbags was & still is "Brighton".... but up here there is only 1 place that carries them, "Mels"..... or I can drive over to Couer D'Alene, ID. and hit the 'Brighton Shoppe' in the same Plaza as the Maryjane Farm store.

I also collect, (for fun & camping), those old tooled leather westerny handbags.... I have 6 in my collection so far and am always on the prowel for more!.

Now that I am retired & have to be a bit more frugal on my spending,,, I find myself using my "go-to" handbag, which is a simple clean lined MK satchel bag.... big enough yet medium enough.....for all my 'must-haves'...
Cuz ya just never know when you will need all those 'must haves'... lol!

My sisters laugh at me because I am pretty much a survivalist and that goes for short town trips too. My "purse" or my bag as everyone usually refers to it must be able to hold some very important items such as (but not limited to) - a light sweater (I am always cold); a small makeup bag that holds those all important things like lip balm, ibuprofen, benadryl, eyeglass cleaners, antiacids, gas-x, nail file, and scissors (the contents of this little bag sure changed as I aged); a bottle of water; cell phone; kindle; enough food to survive 2 days (just incase); a few coupons; and still have a little room to carry small purchases. Right now I have a Mary Poppins carpet bag style. Surprisingly though it really is not that heavy and I don't have any problem finding things. I keep my bags very organized and extra clutter is just not allowed.

Begin each morning with a song in your heart.

That's the other thing...if i'm out for a long time, the weight will start to be too much and may start a migraine, so any purse can't be too big or too heavy. I do better with backpacks instead, but there's a certing time and place for those.

And really, aside from a bottle of water, my wallet and a few basic necessities, there really isn't all that much that needs to be hauled around on a shopping foray. ALl that weight will just hold me back from a really good potential bargian!

Wow, you hit a nerve with this topic! Purses are my favs! I probably have about 25, I have had more when I used to work outside the home; I have all sizes and shapes! Just about all of them have been scored at tag sales or the like! Actually, now that I do not work outside the home I am now more into tote bags, cant have too many of them either! These are also found at sales!

I hate to shop for a new purse and will use mine until it is almost falling apart. My daughter has scoliosis and so I bought her an ameribag, supposed to put less weight on your back. It worked for her so I bought one for myself. Lots of pockets to keep everything in its place. My daughters carries and extra small and I now have a medium but I think a small works just as well. I have been through 3 bags now. You can see them here http://www.ameribag.com/ I also have an extra large one that I can use for a weekend bag.

thanks for the site
you know ; they are so big and heavy with all the hard wear ; and name logos on them.
no wonder we are in pain from them and some styles of today's shoes.
I have a friend that knitted a bag and lined it and then put these pretty colored beads on it for a handle.
she is selling them for $40.00
not a bad idea. hugs

I'm a Vera Bradley girl and have quite a few of their bags. I love a soft fabric bag that can be washed.
