So we just drove 3600 miles across the country for a job that fell through. I planned to go to Oregon to get my fingerprints done and hopefully get my Oregon nursing license. I got a California license yesterday. We planned to go to Oregon and Washington state next week.
Today my recruiter called to tell me that there is a postiton in North Carolina about 45 mins from my DD and grandgirls and we eventually want to end up in NC this year forever so I can be close to the kids. It's a 5/14 start date and good money. It would allow me to get another car and find a place for us to live near my DD and allow me to find a job in the area for when my travel contract ends.
On the other hand, we just got to the west coast and haven't seen anything. My goal was to see my DH see the Grand Canyon and I've done that so every thing else is gravy. There is more we want to see but I want to be close to my girls too. So what do I do? I need to give my recruiter an answer tomorrow but I told her I wanted 1 day to pray about it and I'd let her know. I'm just looking for feedback and maybe a point I didn't think of. I know that this is my last trip. Whenever we finish with the west coast I am moving to NC to be close to the girls so I guess I'm wondering if that starts now or we do some sightseeing first. Joey--With the nursing shortage everywhere, you can get a nursing job in NC without a recruiter. I say enjoy the West Coast while you are there, and then drive east to NC where you want to live. You can check out places you may want to live online at night after sight seeing and the look up where the hospitals are located. Go to the hospital websites and check out the positions that are open. I would bet a local recruiter will want you to come in for an interview .

If you are questioning yourself, then I think that the answer is there for you. North Carolina will be there, waiting for you. You are are on the west coast and wanting to see things. I think based on your situation and all that you have shared with us,that you should spend some time enjoying the sights etc. When you are done in a month or so (or however long you decide) you can contact your recruiter again, and/or do some searching in NC on your own. It will work itself out Joey, so for now I say ENJOY!!!!!

I agree....you made it out here to the West Coast, so take your time. Go the scenic route and enjoy the journey. NC will still be there waiting when you are ready to go back.

If you have the flexibility to be able to spend some time seeing the West Coast, I say go for it! I agree with my fellow farm girls-there is a nursing shortage-you can get a nursing job anywhere you would like! You've been through a lot these past weeks so being able to take some deep breaths and regroup might be just what the doctor ordered (sorry, no pun intended!)...enjoy your time out west!

Yep, don't miss the Grand Canyon, see some other sites, check out hiring hospitals in the area you want. Souns like the universe is sending you a big message, all you have to do is listen.

While you have the time, I'd see the Grand Canyon. Be sure to stay there till dusk one evening to see the thousands of bats come out of the cave. It is surely something to witness. Good luck on getting a job.

Here's what I'm thinking: May 15th is more than two weeks away. Maybe you and your hubby could see a few sites in CA over the next few days, and then just head out to NC. Enjoy a VERY mini vacation before living out your dream! Being near your daughter and family is where your heart has been all this time. Joey, this is all a gift, in my book! You and your hubby have had the opportunity of a lifetime to drive cross-country, see some amazing sites and really enjoy this wonderful country. That's a gift that many will never receive! I know God has big plans in store for you... maybe He gave you this trip to ease your mind and spirit while He worked good for you behind the scenes. Very cool "two birds with one stone," don't you think? Whatever you decide, I'm on your side, and am still praying for you, sister! Good luck! Can't wait to hear your story unfold! I lived in CA and miss it every so often. Saw the Grand Canyon on the way back home to Ohio and not sure when I'll ever see it again either.
When you land in NC be sure to reconnect...I'm here centrally about an hour away from Raleigh and work at the zoo. |

One of your other posts mentioned driving up the Coast. Do you have a time frame?
I ask because I live in Glide, outside of Roseburg on the way to Crater Lake. Depending on schedules maybe we could meet up and at least say hi.

Many thanks to all of you who helped me think this through. After discussing this with my DH and DD we've decided not to apply for the NC job. There is more we want to see out here and my DD said she knows we will be there in a year or less and THIS IS MY LAST TRIP. Once we go home we will be neaar my DD and grandgirls forever. I am SO looking forward to that time but am not quite ready to give up our gypsy life yet. Hope something comes up in California for me to start in 2 weeks. In the mean-time, Rod and I are leaving Sacramento on Monday to drive up the CA, OR and eventually the WA coast and also see Portland, OR and Seattle, WA. We feel so blessed to be able to do this.
